Medical Director-Arkansas Health Group Primary Care

Arkansas Health Group (AHG) employs approximately 700 physicians and advanced practice providers in the Baptist Health System across 12 hospitals and >120 clinical practice groups. The Physician Leadership Team consists of the Chief Medical Officer, Medical Director of Primary Care, and Medical Director of Specialties. The Primary Care Medical Director will have oversight of  ~50 Baptist Health Primary Care Clinics across Arkansas. 

 

The Primary Care Medical Director (PCMD) should be a physician with board certification in a primary care discipline and have > 10 years experience in clinical practice and significant experience in an organization leadership or managerial role. A masters degree in business or health administration, or public health is not required but would bring a management acumen to the role. Other background experience in medical informatics, quality improvement and patient safety, population health, or value-based care would also be highly beneficial.   

 

The PCMD is an integral member of the AHG management team, responsible for interfacing with participating provider practices, AHG Sr. Leadership & Health System/Hospital Leadership for mission-critical programs and projects in integrated health delivery, population health and value based payment models. 



Responsibilities

  1. Primary oversight of clinical practice of  the primary care practice. 
  2. Direct interaction and partnership with the Baptist Health Population Health Service Organization providing oversight and implementation of value based care contracts and delivery of care.  
  3. There will be the option to be engaged in clinical practice 5-20% of the time, based on desire and interest.
  4. Annual or semiannual visits to  attend  business meetings of each primary care practice to deliver information, address problems, and receive feedback with a focus on value based care and other initiatives. Direct engagement is key.
  5. Oversee the development and maintenance of a quality improvement process for each primary care practice and all providers. 
  6. Lead the effort to evaluate each clinic for opportunities and needs for growth to add providers.
  7. Lead the effort to evaluate the potential need for development of new clinics in new locations.
  8. Lead the effort to develop and open new primary care clinic sites.  
  9. Review and ensure compliant billing practices and documentation are maintained in all clinics by all providers.
  10. Oversee and ensure proper duties of APPs and working relationships within the primary care clinics with a primary goal that they receive proper oversight from physicians and proceed to function primarily as independent providers.
  11. Participate directly in the AHG provider workforce planning and recruitment.
  12. Participate directly in the planning and delivery of provider onboarding.
  13. Work directly with Directors of Practice Operation who oversee Primary Care Clinics including Rural Health Clinics.
  14. Assist in creating an organization designed to support and maintain delivery of the highest quality care.
  15. Consult with Baptist Health Information Services/EPIC team, AHG Leadership & others to develop a deep level of expertise in payment transformation programs for primary care providers; total cost of care and utilization management initiatives.

 

Requirements
Doctorate degree in Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine

Board Certification in a Primary Care Discipline

> 10 years primary care practice experience
