This is a uniquely strategic role with a mix of both internal and external-facing responsibilities in an area of increasing importance for Applied Intuition. In short, this role will make an impact. You will report to our Head of Legal and primarily support Product, Engineering, and Marketing to provide strategic legal guidance on a wide range of issues, including integrations, privacy, copyright, accessibility, and emerging technologies. You will also have opportunities to expand your role as part of a small legal team in a high growth start up. Our ideal candidate is a business-minded lawyer and tech geek who is focused on execution, prepared to lead on important projects, and comfortable making substantive and creative decisions. The role will require a high degree of self-sufficiency but also someone who enjoys being part of a supportive team dedicated to providing top legal service to our internal clients. You must be willing to roll up your sleeves and be comfortable working in ambiguity as you will be operating in the dynamic intersection of law and new technologies.At Applied Intuition, you will:Be a trusted advisor to the Product, Engineering, Design, and Business Teams and help them navigate a range of issues related to Autonomy and AI, including privacy, data protection, accessibility, and consumer protectionsLead and support cross-functional projects related to compliance, safety, and IP protection, ensuring all legal requirements are integrated into product development workflowsReview product integrations to ensure compliance with contractual obligations, data protection laws, intellectual property rights, and other relevant legal and regulatory requirementsTranslate legal advice into actionable guidance for cutting-edge product and engineering teams, often under tight deadlinesManage our patenting program, facilitate invention harvesting sessions, and advise on IP strategyBuild systems, policies, and processes, including guides and playbooks, that address risk and ensure compliance while supporting efficient innovationReview and edit customer contracts, in-bound contracts, marketing materials, and other external-facing documents, ensuring they are compliant, user-friendly, and aligned with Applied Intuition’s policiesProactively manage other duties that may arise as part of a small legal team in a high growth start-upCollaborate with external sources, regulators, and industry groups as needed to stay current on global legal and regulatory developments specifically relevant to Autonomy and AIAssist with M&A transactionsWe’re looking for someone who has:Experience working with internal engineering, product, design, security, privacy, and marketing teams throughout the product development life cycle, advising on regulatory requirements and how to mitigate risks for new technologiesExperience counseling business partners on domestic and international laws, regulations, and best practices for implementing and ensuring ongoing complianceDemeanor to thrive in a fast-paced, execution-focused environment, requiring exceptional organizational skills, juggling priorities, and adhering to strict deadlinesDemonstrated ability to advance large, complex projects8+ years' of law firm and/or in-house experience, preferably in technology companies, with the activities described aboveJ.D. degree from an accredited law school and active membership in one state barNice to have:Experience with some combination of law firm and in-house workComputer science or engineering degree - while a science or technical degree is not a prerequisite for this job, a passion for technologies isFamiliarity with machine learning, autonomy, generative models, and productsPrivacy certifications (CIPP-E, CIPP-US, CIPM), or desire to obtain oneCompensation at Applied Intuition for eligible roles includes base salary, equity, and benefits. Base salary is a single component of the total compensation package, which may also include equity in the form of options and/or restricted stock units, comprehensive health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance coverage, 401k retirement benefits with employer match, learning and wellness stipends, and paid time off. Note that benefits are subject to change and may vary based on jurisdiction of employment.Applied Intuition pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum intended target base salary for new hire salaries for the position. The actual base salary offered to a successful candidate will additionally be influenced by a variety of factors including experience, credentials & certifications, educational attainment, skill level requirements, interview performance, and the level and scope of the position.Please reference the job posting’s subtitle for where this position will be located. For pay transparency purposes, the base salary range for this full-time position in the location listed is: $220,000 - $270,000 USD annually.
