The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22,000 students and 60+ different languages are spoken in the homes of our students. JOB GOAL:

To assist in the successful operation of a high school choral music program. The staff

accompanist will facilitate this process through various skilled musical and non-musical

responsibilities, working closely and cooperatively with the high school choral director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Work in an effective and cooperative manner with the High School Choral Director
  • Master the musical scores required in a timely manner
  • Provide able and enlightened assistance from the keyboard during the choral rehearsal
  • Provide mature and effective leadership in sectional rehearsals when required
  • Be available for all school musical performances
  • Provide assistance in the preparation of solos and ensembles
  • Provide detailed and accurate clerical work for the music department as needed
  • Provide other non-musical assistance t o the High School Choral Director as directed
  • Assist at assigned middle schools
  • Cover occasional concerts as assigned by the Fine Arts Coordinator
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Hold a BA, MA, or equivalent
  • Successful experience working in a school or with children
  • Excellent keyboard skills
  • Excellent music sight- reading skills and aural skills
  • Ability to work effectively with music students both individually and collectively
  • Excellent human relation skills
  • High energy level and a record of excellent work habits and attendance

COMMUNICATION / ORGANIZATION: Maintains communication with school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students.

Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.

Performs other related work as required.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and analyze and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, general curriculum and learning theories, correspondence, and protocols. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.

While performing the duties of the job the employee occasionally may visit a child's home. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 186 days

SALARY: $26.79 - $30.63

HOURS: Mutually agreed schedule, up to 40 hours weekly.

FLSA STATUS: Hourly, Non-Exempt

REPORT TO: High School Choral Director, Principal, and Administrative Coordinator of Music

EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation.
