Position Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Controller with a strong background in government accounting to join our team in the Fort Lauderdale area. This pivotal role involves overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with government regulations, and providing strategic insights to enhance decision-making. Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Data Management: Collect and consolidate financial data to deliver accurate financial reporting and analysis tailored to government requirements.
  • Supervision: Lead the accounting and finance departments, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to government accounting standards and best practices.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic financial plans that align with the organization's goals and public sector requirements.
  • Financial Statements: Prepare internal and external financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable governmental accounting standards, including GASB (Governmental Accounting Standards Board) guidelines.
  • Compliance: Maintain compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and standards, upholding the highest integrity in financial practices.
  • External Audit Coordination: Manage activities with external auditors to ensure a smooth audit process, particularly for government audits.
  • Decision-Making Insights: Provide critical insights and recommendations to leadership to inform strategic decisions within the context of public funding and resources.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Oversee the budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring they align with governmental financial goals and reporting requirements.
  • Procurement Coordination: Supervise procurement activities to ensure compliance and efficient use of public resources.
  • Financial Controls: Establish and maintain robust financial controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with government standards.
  • Accounting Procedures: Evaluate and improve accounting procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in a government context.
  • Software Solutions: Assess and select accounting software solutions that meet the unique needs of governmental financial management.
  • KPI Development: Identify, develop, and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess financial performance in line with public sector objectives.
  • Regulatory Reporting: Manage regulatory reporting requirements, ensuring timely and accurate submissions to relevant government agencies.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.
  • Proven experience in a Controller or similar financial leadership role, with a preference for candidates who have worked in government or public sector environments.
  • Strong knowledge of government financial regulations, compliance standards, and GASB requirements.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in government accounting software and financial reporting tools.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
