Job Description
This position provides support to the Director of the Office of Safe Schools in the implementation of the Department's safe schools mission as established by the State Board of Education, the Commissioner of Education, and Legislature, through state goals, priority objectives, the Strategic Imperative Plan, and other policy and procedural directives related to K-12 education.
Additionally, this position will offer and provide training within the Office of Safe Schools that include SESIR Incidents, Florida Safe School Assessment Tool, compliance matters, threat management, bullying, and other areas related to school safety as needed. Responsibilities include knowledge of federal and state statutes and rules, researching and gathering information, and communicating with various constituents. In addition, assists the Vice Chancellor and Executive Director of the Office of Safe Schools in the development, leadership, and implementation of the state's safe schools policy and programs as represented by state and federal laws, rules and regulations, appropriations, and policy directives.

Attendance at work is an essential job function. This position will be assigned to the Office of Safe Schools North Region.
The incumbent must be willing and able to travel frequently throughout Florida, including the counties within the North Region, and currently reside in one of the areas in the North Region.
North Region Counties include: Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton, Bay, Gulf, Calhoun, Jackson, Liberty, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Bay, and Walton.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Assist in overseeing statewide use of compliance with and documentation of required information within the Florida Safe School Assessment Tool (FSSAT) for both schools and school districts. Verifying accuracy and reliability of data received from district and/or schools.
- The employee must support the efforts of the Office of Safe Schools which serve as a central repository for best practices, training standards and compliance oversight in all matters regarding school safety and security, including prevention efforts, intervention efforts, and emergency preparedness planning.
- Present professional development workshops, webinars, and trainings to subrecipients, and other stakeholders.
- Assist the department with the development, updates, data management, and implementation of required reporting for safety, security and discipline incidents.
- Assist with the design, development, and format of required reports which meet industry reporting standards as well as addressing managerial reporting requirements.
- Verify that reports displayed or generated are readable, capture required information, and are functioning appropriately.
- Conduct reviews of applications and district reports to identify technical and reporting problems.
- Develop, review, and provide technical assistance materials and support regarding functionality, user management, and the data collection process for school district personnel.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to school districts in regard to their implementation of the strategies and activities necessary to address findings.
- Ensure that schools having policies and procedures have adopted policies for reunification and that they are updated and reviewed annually; maintain subscription service for family reunification.
- Assist in the development of workshops and training for family reunification; adopt policies and procedures for school officials to prepare for and respond to natural and manmade disasters, including family reunification plans to reunite students and employees with their families after a school is closed or unexpectedly evacuated due to such disaster.
- Perform simple and complex Excel calculations and reports for the Office of Safe Schools as needed.
- Provide technical support in the department's handling of school district audit findings, which includes timely review of audit findings, timely delegation of audit findings to other offices within the department, and timely follow-up with districts for resolution.
- Review public school-based diversion programs periodically to ensure that activities conform with existing laws, regulations and agency policies.
- Assist with the maintenance of a current directory of public school-based diversion programs and cooperate with each judicial circuit and the Department of Juvenile Justice to facilitate their efforts to monitor and enforce each governing body's compliance with s. 985.12.
- Aid in the maintenance of this directory on an annual basis including updates when necessary; monitoring and enforcement could involve on-site review and/or ongoing desktop review of compliance in this area.
- Report violations or concerns of improper safety and security reporting to proper authorities for corrective action.
- Prepares slides, transparencies, and tapes for presentation.
- Coordinates administrative and logistical support for training programs.
- Develops layouts for printed materials.
- Present professional development workshops, webinars, and trainings, to subrecipients, and other stakeholders.
- Identifies training needs of a standing committee and arranges for or provides training to address the identified needs.
- Perform other related work as required.
- At least 2 years of professional experience in a position involving public contact.
- Valid Florida Driver's License
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to travel frequently within the state of Florida.
