The Electrification and Automation (EA) Business Unit offers the full range of energy distribution systems and solutions for all markets and through all sales channels. We provide reliable power distribution grids of today while investing into our Future Grids portfolio and applications to create the power distribution grid of the future. Our comprehensive portfolio meets the growing technical requirements of todays and tomorrow's power grid.

We are seeking an experienced Senior R&D Designer to join our team, specializing in power distribution equipment. With a solid electrical engineering background and over 8 years of experience, including team leadership, you will drive innovative design projects, mentor junior engineers, and ensure our products meet the highest industry standards. This position is based in Wendell, NC, and requires in-office presence 3 days a week.

You will make in impact with the following duties:
  • Design Development: Create ideas and refine designs for power distribution equipment, including outdoor switch devices, switchgear, and circuit breakers, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Technical Analysis: Conducting within the team simulations and analyses to evaluate design feasibility and performance, using software tools such as NX and Teamcenter and electrical simulation programs.
  • Prototyping and Testing: Direct the prototyping and testing phases, analyzing results to validate designs and make necessary adjustments to meet performance criteria.
  • Documentation: Prepare detailed documentation of design processes, test results, and project reports to support compliance and future development efforts.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with an international cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, and product management, to ensure seamless project execution and integration.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to enhance design processes and product offerings.
  • Lead Design Projects: Oversee the design and development of power distribution equipment, including outdoor switch devices, switchgear, and circuit breakers, ensuring high performance, reliability, and compliance with standards.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and support to team members, fostering a collaborative environment and promoting best practices in design and engineering processes.
  • Innovative Solutions: Identify and implement innovative design approaches and technologies to enhance product functionality, efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Project Management: Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring successful completion of design initiatives and alignment with strategic objectives. Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Oversee the preparation of comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and project updates for stakeholders.
  • Project Leadership: Lead the design and development of power distribution equipment from concept to production.
  • Team Management: Mentor and guide a team of engineers, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and professional growth.

You'll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience in R&D and design roles, specifically in power distribution or electrical equipment.
  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., NX, Teamcenter) and electrical simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, Ansys).
  • Experience designing power distribution equipment, including outdoor switch devices, switchgear, and circuit breakers.
  • Ability to be on-site at the Wendell, NC location a minimum of 3 days per week.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience leading teams, inspiring collaboration, and driving innovation.
  • Skilled in managing complex projects with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to convey technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders across cross-functional teams.
  • Passion for technology, sustainability, and creative solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities for optimizing engineering designs.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

  • The pay range for this position is $100,450 - $172,200. An annual incentive target is also part of the compensation package for this position. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
