Position Summary:
THE ORGANIZATION: El Pasoans Fighting Hunger is the only food bank serving the great El Paso region, three Counties (El Paso, Hudspeth, Culberson) and covering nearly 10,000 square miles along the borderland. El Paso is the 22nd largest city in America. We accomplish our mission of feeding neighbors experiencing food insecurity and hunger through strategic food distribution partnerships with over 100 pantry partners, and over 1,000 client choice mobile pantry food distributions. El Pasoans Fighting Hunger is the second youngest food bank in the country and the sixth largest in terms of food distribution; the food bank itself provides the largest distribution of food in this region for those experiencing hunger. El Pasoans Fighting Hunger is listed in the Forbes Top 100 Charities in America. El Pasoans Fighting Hunger is a Member of both Feeding America and Feeding Texas.
Under direct supervision of the Transportation Manager, this position is responsible for creating and managing over the road and local driver schedules. This includes coordinating and dispatching drivers, vehicles and/or equipment in compliance with FMCSA/ DOT rules and regulations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Include, but are not limited to the following:
• Dispatch Coordination: Assign and schedule drivers for deliveries and pickups based on priority, availability, and location.
• Route Optimization: Plan and adjust routes to maximize efficiency, considering factors like traffic, weather, and road conditions.
• Communication: Serve as the main point of contact between drivers, customers, and other internal departments to ensure effective communication of schedules, delays, and any changes.
• Problem-Solving: Quickly address and resolve any issues that arise during transit, such as delays, breakdowns, or last-minute changes.
• Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of driver assignments, delivery times, and any incidents, using dispatching software.
• Compliance & Safety: Ensure that all drivers adhere to safety and regulatory requirements, including hours of service (HOS) regulations.

- Communicate with drivers, customers and other stakeholders
- Answer phone calls, emails and messages.
- Monitor driver performance and safety. Conduct safety audits and inspections.
- Manage driver hours, breaks, performance and compliance.
- Maintain accurate records (delivery logs, mileage, HOS, maintenance, etc.)
- Generate reports (shipment summaries, performance metrics, etc.)
- Plan and optimize routes for efficient task completion.
- Monitor and track shipments, drivers and vehicles.
- Manage logistics, scheduling and delivery timelines
- Provide updates on shipment status, delays or issues.
- Coordinate with warehouses, terminals and other facilities.
- Ensure compliance with regulations (DOT, FMCSA).
- Monitor vehicle maintenance and safety.
- Report incidents and accidents.
- Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in logistics is a plus.
- Proficient in transportation management software (TMS) and routing optimization tactics.
- Familiarity with GPS tracking and telematics.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and HOS compliance is preferred.
- Proven experience as a dispatcher, preferably in a transportation or trucking environment.
- Knowledge of logistics and supply chain management.
- Basic computer skills (data entry, reporting).
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, English and Spanish preferred
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to stay calm and make quick decisions under pressure
- Flexibility with work hours; may be required to work nights, weekends, or holidays as needed.
