Title: Interim Assistant Controller
Location: Hybrid - Fairfax, VA 3 days a week
Hourly Rate: Market
Job Type: Contract 2-3 months
Required: Costpoint 8.1 or 8.2 experience
Position Overview: As the interim Assistant Controller, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial health and integrity of our client's organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, extensive experience with Deltek Costpoint, and a proven track record of successfully managing accounting functions.
Responsibilities:
- Assist Controller with managing staff tasks in AP, AR, GL and payroll.
- Manage payroll activities and post labor distributions.
- Manage month-end and year-end general ledger close.
- Ability to complete journal entries such as lease transactions, fixed asset/depreciation, investments/dividends, and payroll entries, as needed.
- Review and analyze unbilled reconciliations with Senior Accountant.
- Work with finance team to analyze and confirm accruals.
- Review and ensure accurate posting to the general ledger for all accounting transactions, i.e., invoices, cash receipts, accounts payable vouchers, disbursements, and journal entries.
- Review monthly balance sheet account reconciliations resolving variance issues timely.
- Assist payroll analyst with local, state, and federal tax and government reporting requirements; as well as assist with resolving any tax discrepancies.
- Assist Controller with researching and applying accounting standards or pronouncements.
- Support various external financial audits, including support of the OMB Single Audit.
- Familiarity with revenue recognition, cash receipts, lease transactions, and payroll are additional areas where experience will be a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Proven experience as an Accounting Manager or similar role.
- In-depth knowledge of Costpoint 8.1 or 8.2 software is mandatory.
- UKG experience a plus
- Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and a commitment to meeting deadlines.
