The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition at the Virginia Commonwealth University is currently recruiting for the Section Chief of Gastroenterology and Nutrition.

The applicant should have direct experience combining clinical practice and teaching in the service of underserved patients. The applicant should be able to obtain a license to practice clinically and be Board Certified in Gastroenterology.

The Section Chief for GI will be responsible for the leadership, management, and administration of the GI and Nutrition Division across the domains of Endoscopy services, Outpatient and Inpatient clinical activities, teaching, service, and research. The Section Chief of GI will have at least ten (10) years of experience in an Academic Institution, will have held leadership positions, and have experience appropriate for the appointment at the Associate Professor level or higher.

This position responsibilities will include:

  • Leadership for Divisional Programs including IBD, GI Fellowship training, Pancreas/Biliary, and Women’s Health.
  • Set up Sites of Excellence for Endoscopy, Esophagus and Nutrition.
  • Oversight of all inpatient and outpatient clinical activities.
  • Providing clinical services in the Gastroenterology clinics at VCUHS, to include both clinics on the MCVH campus and in Gastroenterology outreach locations; participating in the inpatient management of patients with GI conditions, with specific expertise in the diagnosis and management of GI disorders; participating as attending physician on the Digestive Health service at VCUHS; performing endoscopic procedures.
  • Providing teaching to medical students, residents, and fellows in the management of patients with GI conditions; providing training in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
  • Oversee growth of collaborative clinical activities between VCUHS and Hunter Holmes McGuire Hospital, Tappahannock Hospital and CMH.
  • Initiating clinical research activities.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU is required.
