WHO ARE WE

The Texas Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Division administers 12 federal child and special nutrition programs and more than $2.5 billion in federal money annually. These programs aim to reduce hunger, encourage strong nutrition, and support local economies across Texas.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Process Improvement Analyst Intern will assist in process improvement efforts within the Food and Nutrition (F&N) Business Management department by developing, organizing and editing compiled information with a heavy emphasis on creating and revising procedures and/or processes. You will assist in developing associated training materials, process workflow maps, and a SharePoint site for the department to contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of the agency and organization. You will work under close supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist staff to solicit recommendations to develop, prepare, and disseminate policies and procedures.

Compose, review, and edit technical documents, materials, process maps, procedures, and reports.

Maintain procedures, processes, and other program materials in a clear, relevant, concise, grammatically correct format.

Assist with preparing and creating documents, tools and SharePoint pages to support internal collaborative processes.

Assist with planning and developing a schedule to ensure consistent and timely completion and maintenance of written processes, procedures, and policies.

Assist with analyzing and interpreting federal regulations, program trends and operational functions to effectively plan, develop and maintain F&N procedures, processes, and other program materials.

Participate in the process improvement documentation for workflow, task completion, system use, and reporting analysis.

Assist with Records Retention and may serve as a backup for the Records & Tracking Analyst to ensure that the TDA F&N division is adhering to appropriate records management, including maintenance of storage, file rooms; workstations and conference rooms, to include coordinating bulk item removal, file management and storage organization.

Assist with independent research projects and analysis on a variety of topics, as assigned.

Follow all TDA policies and procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

Enrollment in a college, university, or graduate program or a recent graduate with a minimum grade point average of 3.0*.

Completion of at least 60 credit hours*.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Coursework and/or experience in planning, developing, preparing, editing, and disseminating procedures, work instructions, processes, and/or SharePoint pages.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge of office procedures; of spelling, punctuation and grammar; and of business or program terminology, methods, and procedures.

Skill in the use of a computer and office equipment; and providing customer service excellence to both internal and external customers.

Ability to prepare and maintain records, files, and reports; to transfer stock from one location to another; and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and exercise sound judgment and discretion.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal office work environment and may have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact. Mostly sedentary in nature but may involve walking; standing; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping and bending; performing tasks requiring fine motor skills and coordination; and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds. Must be able to work extended periods at a computer and may require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed. May be required to travel, which will include overnight. May involve travel (up to 5%*), occasionally overnight.
