WHO ARE WE
The Texas Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Division administers 12 federal child and special nutrition programs and more than $2.5 billion in federal money annually. These programs aim to reduce hunger, encourage strong nutrition, and support local economies across Texas.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
The Financial Analyst Intern will assist with entry to mid-level financial analysis, financial reporting, and reconciliations for federally funded nutrition programs administered by the Food and Nutrition Division. You will assist with performing analysis on large amounts of moderately complex data. You will work under close supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist staff in the researching, planning, developing, implementing, analyzing, and documenting of assigned programs.
Assist with reviewing payment data and preparing reports to monitor the financial performance of federal grants.
Assist with preparing periodic budget and financial reports, including status updates, reconciliations, adjustments, and journal entries.
Assist with the grant management of federal awards and the preparation of ad-hoc reports for management and the agency.
Train on and compile information from the Automated Standard Application for Payments (ASAP) system and Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS).
Assist with scheduling, documenting, and coordinating meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
Assist with preparing and creating documents and tools to support internal process improvement for internal functions.
Assist with the review, edits, and consolidation of documents.
Follow all TDA policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION
Enrollment in a college, university, or graduate program or a recent graduate with a minimum grade point average of 3.0* and major coursework in Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
Completion of at least 60 credit hours*.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of office procedures; of spelling, punctuation and grammar; and of business or program terminology, methods, and procedures.
Skill in the use of a computer and office equipment; and providing customer service excellence to both internal and external customers.
Ability to prepare and maintain records, files, and reports; to transfer stock from one location to another; and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and exercise sound judgment and discretion.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal office work environment and may have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact. Mostly sedentary in nature but may involve walking; standing; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping and bending; performing tasks requiring fine motor skills and coordination; and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds. Must be able work extended periods at a computer and may require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed. May be required to travel, which will include overnight. May involve travel (up to
5%* ), occasionally overnight.
