WHO ARE WE
The Texas Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Division administers 12 federal child and special nutrition programs and more than $2.5 billion in federal money annually. These programs aim to reduce hunger, encourage strong nutrition, and support local economies across Texas.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Work in a fast paced, multi-faceted environment,performing project management, training, coordination and liaison work that involves design, planning, developing, initiating and implementing initiatives that improve engagement and awareness of programs in the Texas Department of Agriculture's (TDA) Food and Nutrition (F&N) Division. Assist with collaborative statewide efforts. Identify, simplify, and coordinate projects that promote awareness and engagement in nutrition programs. Attend stakeholder meetings and councils. Work under limited supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with the management of complex responsibilities and activities of assigned F&N initiatives, including design, development, implementation, monitoring, and enhancement of a strategic work plan to establish goals, strategies, and tactics.
Manage assigned projects, including identifying required resources and ensure project schedules are completed within agreed-upon time frames.
Assist with contract management or grant services that support F&N activities including the fulfillment of all terms as outlined in the contract, tracking of all expenditures, and verifying and submitting payment for invoicing.
Enhance existing relationships with state, community and non-profit organizations.
Develop surveys, analyze programs, data and establish project metrics for the purpose of improving assigned projects and division goals.
Assist in the management and development of external workgroups, including providing key program updates and developing strategic goals.
Assist in developing and/or presenting program updates and training to stakeholders.
Provide guidance, complex technical assistance and/or direction related to assigned F&N Programs and collaborate with F&N staff, other agency staff and stakeholders to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, regulations and/or requirements.
Assist in the development, implementation, and coordination of engagement projects from concept to final briefing.
Follow all TDA policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION
Bachelor's Degree. (One year of work experience related to the primary responsibilities may substitute for one year of college).
Minimum three (3) years of work experience administering a program or project, including creating program/project goals and objectives and monitoring progress of long-term initiatives.
Work experience coordinating and tracking projects.
Experience developing and presenting complex material to a diverse audience.
Valid Texas driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of food and nutrition programs; and of public administration and management techniques.
Skill in identifying measures or indicators of program performance; in managing multiple projects; in providing excellent customer service to both internal and external customers; and the use of a computer and applicable software.
Ability to gather, assemble, correlate, and analyze facts; to devise solutions to problems; to prepare reports; to develop, evaluate, and interpret policies and procedures; to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; to provide guidance to others; and to exercise sound judgment and discretion.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal office work environment and may have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact. Mostly sedentary in nature but may involve walking; standing; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping, and bending; performing tasks requiring fine motor skills and coordination; and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds. Must be able to work extended periods at a computer and may require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed. May involve travel
(30%) , occasionally overnight.
TELEWORK & WORK HOURS
TDA has a telework policy that will allow eligible positions to telework up to two ( 2 ) days per week after completing six (6) months of employment with the agency. The employee must meet eligibility criteria set forth in the Telework Policy
