Salary: $38,829 - $60,237
Nature of Work
This is a full-time position responsible for processing, hauling and handling trash and recyclable materials. Laborer(s) will operate city vehicles and equipment utilized in the collection of solid-waste, recycling, and yard waste collection. Will be required to complete maintenance duties and clean-up in inclement weather. Laborers will work, Monday-Friday; weekend and holiday work as required.
A majority of the work is performed outdoors. However, some indoor operational duties are required. Work is reviewed through observation of results obtained. Work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of specialized equipment including making minor adjustments to equipment.

Examples of Work
- Operates dump truck and automated refuse equipment
- Operates a Forklift
- Sorts, handles and processes recyclable material and/or trash
- Maintains Material Recovery Facility which includes sweeping and removing debris from main floor, grounds and equipment
- Reports malfunctioning equipment to immediate supervisors
- Maintains City' recycling drop-off center
- Assists with refuse and recycling collection
- Insures minimal contamination of recyclables being processed for the market
- Performs minor janitorial duties inside Municipal Recycling Facility
- Controls litter in and around all City maintained alleys
- Performs clean-up and maintenance of Loop/City Lots
- Will perform manual labor tasks
- Will be required to keep written records
- Performs other assigned duties as required
- Delivers trash and recycling carts to residents upon request
- Operates rear-loader for yard-waste and bulk item collection
- Able to operate or learn to operate a forklift
- Ability to independently perform and carry out routine sorting operations and maintenance work
- Ability to ride on rear loader styled trucks
- Ability to learn in a reasonable amount of time a variety of departmental duties and responsibilities
- Ability to quickly demonstrate broad based understanding of the solid waste industry
- Must be able to lift objects no greater than 75 pounds
- Must be able to read route
- Demonstrates ability to follow directions, rules, regulations and all safety
- Must maintain effective working relationship with supervisor, co-workers, and general public
- Must have class A or B Commercial Drivers' License
- Hearing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, climbing and
- Assist with lifting material or equipment up to
- Ability to work inside and outside in all weather
- Ability to concentrate or focus mentally for extended periods of time while operating or driving
- Clarity of vision at 20 inches corrected or
- High School diploma or equivalent with one to three years of experience operating equipment
- Valid, current Commercial Driver's License
