About the RoleData Engineers at Hinge Health are skilled software engineers with deep expertise in building and optimizing data pipelines, designing efficient schemas for OLTP (Online Transaction Processing) and data warehouses, and ensuring robust data governance. They are responsible for architecting the infrastructure that supports OLTP systems, data lakes, and advanced reporting, analytics, and AI/ML capabilities.In this hands-on role, Data Engineers create powerful self-service tools and automation that empower application engineers and data analysts to independently manage, maintain, and secure data systems, all while adhering to industry best practices and HIPAA compliance standards.The ideal candidate thrives in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment, working closely with multiple teams to ensure data systems are scalable, secure, and future-ready.Our stack:  Python, SQL, Airflow, PostgreSQL, MySQL, REST, Aptible, Docker, Tonic.ai, Terraform, Spark, Kafka, Fivetran, Databricks, AWS (S3, Lambda, Kinesis, RDS, Glue). Our workflow is trunk-based CI/CD, and our security/compliance posture is at the highest standards of healthcare, including HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2, CCPA.What You'll AccomplishCreate compliance strategies (HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA), tooling, processes, and coaching that enables service and application teams to take full ownership of their data in a growing organizationArchitect and build data pipelines and data aggregation systems to deliver quality real-time and batch analytical reportsParticipate in hiring and mentoring of team membersAssist and coach teams to optimize poorly performing data pipelinesWork with the SRE team to establish best practices around database monitoring, alerting, and availabilityHinge Health Hybrid ModelWe believe that remote work and in-person work have their own advantages and disadvantages, and we want to be able to leverage the best of both worlds. Employees in hybrid roles are required to be in the office 3 days/week.Basic Qualifications10+ years of software engineering experience, 8+ in data engineering8+ years of experience building data pipelines using Spark, Kafka, Airflow6+ years of experience working with SQL and Python6+ years of experience processing and storing large scale data using distributed systems as well as a mastery of database designs and data warehousing4+ years of experience working with broad spectrum of data stores like PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Snowflake and Redshift2+ years of experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform) and modern CI/CD pipelines.Knowledge of software engineering best-practice development (e.g., linting, testing)Prior experience working with KubernetesPreferred QualificationsBachelor’s degree in C.S. or equivalent experiencePrior DBA experiencePrior experience with healthcare data (PHI/PII/HIPAA)Extensive NoSQL knowledgeExperience building data infrastructure on AWS Excellent communication skills, both written and verbalAbility to collaborate and problem-solve across teamsCompensationThis position will have an annual salary, plus equity and benefits. Please note the annual salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location.
