DescriptionAs directed and supervised by healthcare professional, performs a variety of patient care activities appropriate to the patient population to contribute to healthcare by preparing patients for visits and enhancing patient flow in accordance with established department policies, standards, procedures and compliance with local, Tribal, state and federal regulations and guidelines ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (include, but not limited to the following)Receives patients, determines chief complaints, reviews medical history prior to exam and updates as appropriateAs directed and supervised by healthcare professional, collects and records a variety of routine patient data as part of check in procedures including, but not limited to: height, weight, temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and glucose screenRetrieves patient chart, reviews for completeness and obtains outside test results as appropriatePerforms patient checkout instructions; implements medical ordersIdentifies and reports unusual findings or observations, clinical symptoms, behaviors and treatment reactions to appropriate healthcare professionalPrepares exam room for procedures, organizes instruments and equipment; assists healthcare provider during outpatient surgical procedures, applies/removes dressingsCleans and sanitizes exam room and fixtures by removing soiled materials/instruments, replacing exam paper sheets and wiping counter areas to provide for efficient room turnsPerforms lab draws and basic tests; seals and packages for processing by laboratoryAs supervised by healthcare professional, administers immunizations to patients in accordance with physician ordersAssists review and reinforce education of basic healthcare procedures and activitiesAssists coordinate transport of patients from clinic to other healthcare facility; faxes patient information and authorizations to receiving facility to facilitate admissionAssists ambulate patient to and from other clinic areasActively participates/assists during urgent care situations as directed; initiates and administers CPR as appropriateMaintains current all records of medication and related health care provided in accordance with all applicable regulations, licensing requirements and standardsPerforms visual inventory of stock and laboratory items; re-orders items to provide for availability of supplies for optimum efficient clinic operationsPerforms a variety of activities to provide for the ongoing maintenance of the clinic's environmentPerforms medical scribe dutiesParticipates in a variety of in-services and unit meetings to maintain understanding of care plan changesRefers problems beyond standards of practice to healthcare professional as appropriateParticipates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiativesParticipates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with SupervisorPerform other duties as assignedRequirementsOne year of patient care experience preferredHigh School Diploma or GED Equivalent requiredMedical Assistant Certification requiredCurrent BLS certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hireIndian Preference and Equal Employment Opportunity SCAHC gives preference in hiring to San Carlos Apache Tribal members and other Native Americans in accordance with the San Carlos Apache Tribe's Tribal Preference Policy, as set forth in Section 402 of the Tribe's Human Resources Department Policies and Procedures Manual.
