Function
This position is responsible for coordinating client needs with building staff for proper setup and smooth operation of events. The position is also responsible for managing WAE Staff and Contracted Staff at the Coliseum for events. The class works under general supervision according to set procedures.
Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree or education and training equivalent to four years of college education in business, liberal arts, or any related field. Three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience in event management. Three (3) years of supervisory experience and a minimum of three years of administrative experience to include budget preparation and monitoring. A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position. Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria. This position is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy. Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion. Additional Requirements
Requires considerable independent judgement, responsible decision making, and effective communication with internal and external customers. Requires working non-standard hours including days, evenings, holidays, and weekends based on scheduled events. The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
