Class Title
This is a leadership position in a multi-skilled workforce requiring supervision skills. Senior Operator work activities include the coordination and direction of the following tasks: water and wastewater treatment process control, quality control, employee supervision, employee scheduling, employee development and evaluation, chemical procurement, spreadsheet development, record-keeping, report writing, general support, computer operation, training and safety, preventive and reactive maintenance, vehicle operation, hand and power tool operation, material handling and basic safety procedures. Duties
Leads and directs work teams; plans for construction projects; prepares budget proposals; prepares plans for future facility needs; implements improved operational and mechanical procedures; calculates alum chemical dosage in pounds/day; determines feed rates for all treatment chemicals; calculates and adjusts ozone feed rates; performs jar testing; oversees work performed by assigned operators and other workers; monitors water or wastewater pumping, monitors computer systems; monitors all plant processes; performs maintenance repair requirements on all plant equipment; Demonstrates knowledge and use of computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and related documentation procedures. Initiates work orders.
All Senior Operators will be able to perform any of the tasks required of an Operator and may be called upon to do so if required. Maintains job safety standards (personal protection equipment, confined space, etc.); complies with City of Shreveport vehicle safety rules; trains new team members on safe work practices; maintains good communication with team members. Regularly attends required safety, job related and certification training classes as required.
Demonstrates the ability and desire to work in a team environment within a multi-skilled workforce. Subject to be on call 24/7. Performs other duties as assigned or required. Minimum Qualifications
1). High school diploma or GED.
2). Valid State Vehicle Operator's License.
3). Associate of Arts Degree from an accredited college or university with course work in at least one of the following areas: Chemistry, biology, mathematics, engineering, or related area and two years of experience in Water or Wastewater Treatment operations or four years of equivalent combination of education and/or experience in operations/maintenance in Water, Wastewater Treatment or Field Operations.
Lucas Plant assignment - Possession of a valid Class 4 Wastewater Treatment Certificate issued by the State of Louisiana, Dept. of Health and Hospitals. Possession of a valid Class 4 Wastewater Collection Certificate issued by the State of Louisiana, Dept. of Health and Hospitals.
Normal Promotion Path from this Class: Chief Supervisor or any higher class for which eligible and qualified
Physical Requirements:
Position may require moderate to extensive stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions, along with some combination of climbing and balancing; may be subject to sitting for prolonged periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Position requires abilities to consistently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally.
Work Environment:
Work is performed outdoors and/or indoors with exposure to noise, dirt, grease, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, fumes, animals, insects, chemicals, treated/untreated sewer, treated/untreated water, inclement weather, machinery with moving parts requiring use of protective devices and computer screens.
