SUMMARY
The Security Guard will play a vital role in maintaining the safety and security of HOPE Community Services during night shifts. The individual in this role will be responsible for monitoring the premises, ensuring the safety of staff, clients, and visitors, and addressing any security concerns with a compassionate and trauma-informed approach. Given the clinic's location, the Security Guard will frequently interact with individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, or who are experiencing trauma in their lives. This will require empathy and alignment with HOPE's mission to treat all people with dignity and respect.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct regular patrols of the facility to ensure the safety and security of the grounds, particularly at entrances, parking areas, and surrounding properties. Assures all doors and windows are locked and secured.
Address any security issues that arise, including incidents involving individuals loitering, trespassing, or engaging in unsafe behavior, with a calm and professional demeanor.
Use verbal de-escalation techniques and conflict resolution skills to handle potentially tense situations, ensuring the safety of everyone involved.
Offer assistance to clients, staff, and visitors who may feel unsafe or in need of help, always providing a welcoming and non-judgmental presence.
When necessary, liaise with law enforcement or emergency responders in accordance with the agency’s safety protocols.
Document and report any incidents, observations, or suspicious activity to the Facilities Operations Coordinator maintaining a clear and accurate log of events.
Ensure that all entrances and exits are secure and report any facility maintenance concerns that could compromise safety. Maintain a clean and safe environment by ensuring that the properties are free from debris and hazards
Interact regularly with individuals who may be struggling with trauma, homelessness, mental health challenges, and addiction, offering resources or referrals to appropriate services when possible, in alignment with HOPE's mission.
After closing, ensure that clients and visitors have safely left the premises, offering any necessary support or guidance in a respectful manner.
Respond promptly to any incidents or altercations, including clients who have not departed after closing, aggressive or unsafe behavior, or destruction of property.
Contact appropriate authorities when needed and in accordance with HOPE’s policies and procedures.
Treat clients with respect and compassion, providing support and assistance as needed
Provide a detailed report of each shift, including any incidents or concerns, at the end of each shift. Follow all HOPE’s documentation policies including the completion of Critical Incidents when appropriate.
Report any issues or concerns that may impact the smooth operation of HOPE properties
Travel using personal vehicle and/or agency owned vehicle will be required. Reimbursement for use of personal vehicle will be made in accordance with agency policy and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Prior security experience strongly preferred, particularly in a healthcare, community, or behavioral health setting.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Strong commitment to treating all individuals with dignity and respect, understanding the unique challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness and addiction.
- Ability to work independently and make sound judgments in emergency situations
- Training or experience in de-escalation, crisis intervention, or trauma-informed care is highly desired.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficient in reporting and documentation software or systems.
- Willingness to work night shifts and be flexible with schedule changes.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
May be required to obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR Certifications.
Current, valid Oklahoma driver's license required. Must meet HOPE insurance requirements. HOPE will annually obtain a copy of Motor Vehicle Record from the Oklahoma State Department of Public Safety.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, Standards and criteria, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of consumers or employees of organization.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to relate to persons with severe mental illness in a positive and helpful manner. Ability to establish and maintain effective and tactful working relationships with co-workers; to express ideas and facts clearly and concisely in written or oral form.
Past training or experience in security is preferred.
Ability to operate personal computer to maintain records and develop reports is necessary.
