Welding Supervisor Job Summary
The Welding Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all welding activities in the fabrication yard. This role ensures that all welding tasks are carried out efficiently, safely, and in compliance with industry standards, project specifications, and company policies. The Welding Supervisor manages a team of welders, inspects work quality, enforces safety protocols, and liaises with other departments to ensure that welding operations align with project timelines and objectives. The role demands a strong technical background in welding processes and the ability to lead a team in a fast-paced fabrication environment.
Welding Supervisor Responsibilities
Oversee all welding activities in the fabrication yard, ensuring they are performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements and industry standards.
Inspect welded joints and ensure that all welding work meets project specifications, codes, and quality standards. Address any defects or quality concerns immediately and implement corrective actions.
Manage and supervise a team of welders, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback. Ensure that welders are equipped with the necessary skills, tools, and materials to complete tasks efficiently.
Assist in the development and approval of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and ensure that welders are following the correct procedures for each project.
Enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures in the welding area. Conduct safety briefings, toolbox talks, and ensure welders wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other departments to coordinate welding activities with overall project timelines and production goals.
Ensure that all welding equipment is maintained and in proper working condition. Schedule regular maintenance checks and report any equipment failures or needs for repairs to management.
Maintain accurate records of welding activities, including inspection reports, material usage, and welder certifications. Report progress and any issues to the Yard Manager or Project Manager.
Welding Supervisor Position Requirements
Minimum of 5 years of experience in welding, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role within a fabrication yard or industrial setting.
Strong background in various welding processes (e.g., MIG, TIG, Stick, Flux-Cored) and materials, particularly steel and aluminum.
Certified Welding Supervisor (CWS) or equivalent welding certification.
Additional certifications, such as AWS (American Welding Society) or CSWIP, are an advantage.
Safety certifications (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH) are preferred.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, welding diagrams, and technical drawings.
Knowledge of welding codes, standards, and best practices (e.g., ASME, AWS).
Strong understanding of welding procedures, quality control measures, and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods.
