Job Description
The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst role is critical to addressing new operational demands and maintaining high-quality GIS standards. This role involves maintaining and optimizing GIS systems, providing technical support, and integrating innovative solutions to enhance operational capabilities. The successful candidate will collaborate with a dedicated team of GIS professionals, assess system gaps, and ensure seamless integration of advanced GIS solutions while supporting internal and external stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities
•Assure the integrity, security, and performance of the GIS program. •Maintain GIS data with other departments and external agencies. •Operate and maintain GIS, including system database, hardware, software, and system design. •Follow quality control standards for GIS data layers for various stakeholders. •Update and maintain GIS databases; clean and correct data and integrate new datasets. •Compile geographic data from diverse sources; scan, rectify, and digitize data; edit and refine GIS data. •Provide technical support and assistance to staff; analyze GIS problems and implement solutions per established standards and guidelines. •Participate in special projects supporting departmental operations, including special studies and providing recommendations for sustainability. •Perform other duties as assigned, which may require irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
Required Experience/Skills
•Knowledge of principles of land planning, mapping, global positioning systems, and aerial orthophotography. •Knowledge of GIS theory, principles, and practices, including data compilation and conversion, database management, graphics applications, and spatial models. •Knowledge of public safety GIS reporting requirements. •Knowledge of government operations and processes. •Skilled in using Esri software suite programs and application programming languages. •Skilled in Esri's ArcGIS suite of products, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Apps. •Skilled in customer service to help departments use GIS to address business issues. •Skilled in interpreting technical documents and applying independent judgment and discretion. •Skilled in preparing reports, analyzing information, and communicating effectively. •Ability to analyze technical problems and develop workable solutions.
Nice-to-Haves
•Experience with emergency management GIS data. •Certifications such as GISP or Esri professional certifications. •Familiarity with quality control processes for GIS databases.
Education
•Bachelor's Degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, or a related field.
