Job Description
POSITION TITLE
Athletics – Varsity Head Football Coach Murray County High School, Region 7 – AA RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Leading, coaching, and teaching participating student-athletes to develop and achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and develop habits that will ensure student-athletes will become better overall citizens for participating in the football program. QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in approved teaching field grades 9-12 (preferred) Hold, or able to obtain, a valid Georgia Teaching Certificate (preferred) Experience: Successful high school teaching and football coaching experience at the coordinator or head coaching level is preferred. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach and coach techniques and skills to ensure a successful football program. Be a positive teacher, coach, role model and motivator. Monitor student-athlete grades in football program(s) and coordinate tutoring opportunities when needed. Enforce discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times and establish and oversee penalties for individual students’ breaches of such standards. Oversee the safety conditions of the facility or area where the assigned sport is conducted when students are present. Adhere to a highly efficient and technically sound program of injury prevention and follow-up. Coordinate a practice schedule for the entire season. Visit feeder schools, produce and keep a weekly schedule of visits with feeder schools and coaches. Ability to communicate and work well with football student-athletes and parents, Booster Club, colleagues, administration, and the community. Develop a consistent and positive public communications procedure through the school and media to inform the parents and the general public about the football program. Monitor all football programs, including middle school and rec programs. Work with middle school coaches to develop a complete 6-12 program. As needed, assist with the selection of positive, competent coaches for the football program’s various levels. Responsible for issuing and collecting equipment to/from athletes. Complete necessary paperwork for inventory, budgeting, records, etc. Attend all meetings as required. Perform other duties within the athletic department as assigned. Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
Exhibit qualities of leadership and organization. Exhibit and use sound judgment. Knowledge of child growth and development. Knowledge of football and ability to teach skills in an acceptable manner. Understanding of and compliance with Murray County Schools policies, procedures, and practices. Understanding of and compliance with Georgia High School Athletic Association rules and regulations. Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate and work well with football student-athletes and parents, Booster Club members, colleagues, administration, business partners, civic organizations, and the community. Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with coaches, Athletic Director, and other school system administrators.
