This position is required to report in-office five days per week at headquarters located in Austin, TX with the potential for a hybrid work schedule in the future pending management approval. GENERAL DESCRIPTION Our mission at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is to serve, protect and advance the citizens and industries in the state with quality motor vehicle related services. We are a dynamic state agency dedicated to customer service, consumer protection and the success of motor vehicle-related industries. Performs entry-level accounting work for the Accounting Operations Section of the Finance Operations Division at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. Work involves performing detailed assignments in recording, classifying, examining, and verifying records, documents, or reports. Work includes data entry into agency accounting systems, which include the Centralized Accounting Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS) and the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS). May assist with processing payrolls, preparing reports, and maintaining records. Works under close supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Classifies, codes and enters financial vendor and payment information in the Centralized Accounting Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS), the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS), and the Texas Identification Number System (TINS). Maintains and administers the electronic timekeeping system and other confidential information. Reconciles leave balances; researches discrepancies; and reports findings. Verifies and distributes warrants for payroll and vendors in accordance with agency and state requirements. Maintains, scans, and secures files of employee payroll/leave and accounting documents. Pulls documents and downloads files. Ensures individual and team files (electronic and hard versions) are appropriately maintained and timely disposed of in accordance with the agencys records retention procedures and schedule. May assist with preparing overtime and vacation lump sum entries for payroll processing. Provides effective and efficient customer service in a professional manner to agency employees and managers. Provides prompt, courteous and accurate assistance, and clear and concise communication both verbally and in writing. Interprets and articulates agency policy and procedures, specifically for payroll and leave. Performs efficiently and independently in a dependable, organized, and productive manner to plan and arrange workload to meet schedules and deadlines. Completes assigned work on time and with infrequent errors. Participates in independent job-related research and demonstrates initiative when seeking solutions to issues. May travel up to 5% of the time. May drive and travel to attend and represent the Department at meetings, seminars and conferences. Travel by car (may include flying). May include overnight travel. Required to attend work regularly and adhere to approved work hours in accordance with department policies and procedures. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications: MINIMUM EQUIREMENTS Education and Experience Familiarity with payroll time/leave accounting and financial operations. Graduation from high school or equivalent plus two (2) years' experience in general office administration work. Six to twelve hours of college coursework in accounting is preferred. Experience in processing payroll and reconciling timesheet entries is preferred. Experience in using Adobe and Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams is preferred. Experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis. (Experience requirements may be satisfied by full-time experience or the prorated part-time equivalent.)
