Job Overview :
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced
Heavy Civil Project Manager
to oversee and manage multiple Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) projects in the Miami area. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in heavy civil construction, particularly in the transportation sector, with proven expertise in managing complex infrastructure projects, adhering to FDOT standards, and ensuring the successful delivery of projects on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and quality standards. As the
Project Manager , you will be responsible for managing all phases of construction, from pre-construction through to project completion. This includes managing subcontractors, overseeing the construction team, interacting with clients and stakeholders, and ensuring that projects comply with all relevant FDOT regulations. Key Responsibilities : Project Planning & Execution :
Manage the full project lifecycle for FDOT-funded heavy civil construction projects, including roadways, bridges, drainage systems, and other transportation-related infrastructure. Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets, ensuring all aspects of the project are thoroughly planned, resourced, and executed in line with FDOT guidelines. Coordinate with design teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure timely and accurate delivery of project milestones.
Team Management :
Supervise and mentor a team of engineers, field supervisors, and other project staff to ensure effective project execution. Monitor daily operations to ensure productivity, safety, and compliance with project specifications. Foster a collaborative and results-driven project environment, ensuring clear communication between team members and stakeholders.
Client & Stakeholder Relations :
Act as the primary point of contact for clients, including FDOT representatives, contractors, and other project stakeholders. Regularly communicate project status, risks, and solutions to senior management and clients. Ensure all necessary permits, approvals, and inspections are secured and adhered to in compliance with FDOT and local regulations.
Budget & Cost Management :
Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring efficient resource allocation, cost control, and the avoidance of cost overruns. Monitor project financials, identify potential cost-saving opportunities, and implement corrective actions as needed.
Compliance & Quality Control :
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as FDOT specifications and safety standards. Implement quality control processes to guarantee that all work meets FDOT standards, is completed on schedule, and adheres to the highest safety standards. Coordinate with the project quality assurance team to perform regular inspections and audits.
Risk Management :
Proactively identify and mitigate project risks, including potential delays, safety concerns, and unforeseen challenges. Lead problem-solving efforts, making decisions to keep the project on track and minimizing project disruptions.
Reporting & Documentation :
Provide regular project updates, including progress reports, safety reports, and financial tracking to senior management and clients. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all project-related activities, including contracts, change orders, RFIs, and field reports.
Qualifications : Education :
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Professional certifications such as PMP, LEED, or PE (Professional Engineer) are a plus.
Experience :
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in heavy civil construction project management, with a focus on transportation-related projects. Proven experience managing FDOT projects, including knowledge of FDOT standards, specifications, and bidding processes. Experience managing projects with budgets over $5M and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams.
Skills & Competencies :
Strong knowledge of construction management software (e.g., Procore, Primavera, MS Project, or similar). In-depth understanding of heavy civil construction processes, safety protocols, and risk management practices. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while managing multiple priorities. Familiarity with Miami’s local construction regulations and environmental requirements is a plus.
Certifications :
OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Certification. FDOT-specific training or certifications (such as FDOT Project Administrator certification) a plus.
