Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare customer source inspection package. Interpret all purchase orders and quality data requirements. Process, procedure, and related quality customer requirements. Review all manufacturing sequences of operations to ensure that all operations have been pre-formed in compliance with customer and in-house requirements. Redirect machined parts for re-inspection and reprocessing, as necessary.
•Responsible for lot-by-lot release for all shipments of forgings. Must review each lot for compliance to processing and quality requirements including NDT in all related processing factions.
•Verify proper processing procedures. Compile and furnish all related paperwork to release of castings for source inspection and shipment. Perform an audit of each lot for complete conforming quality requirements, including dimensional verification. Present entire package to source inspection for final approval.
•Complete dimensional over inspection by using standard inspection methods (height gage, mics, calipers, part specific ID/OD gages). Interpret customer blueprints and notes to ensure proper measurements are taken. Review and understand coordinate measurement machine (CMM) reports for conformance.
•Work with source inspection on specific problems and coordinate activity with source inspection and responsible supervision, regarding related process and quality problems.
•Detect and report defective parts, improper operation, and unusual conditions to proper supervision. Maintain work area equipment in a clean and orderly condition. Follow prescribed safety regulations.
•Perform a variety of other duties and tasks of equal or less complexity, as assigned by supervisor.
•Perform a variety of forging and inspection paperwork following standard accepted practices and process requirements.
•Considerable judgment is required to interpret lot conformance, complete process conformance, quality specifications and requirements, and quality purchase order/shipping requirements, and related decisions and maintain proper records.
•Support CMM as needed.
•Support Quality Engineering with task as needed.
•Perform Process Verification Audits.
•Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Working Conditions:
•Constant exposure to indoor & outdoor manufacturing environment.
•Constant exposure to moderate noise.
•Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes/odors, and hot/cold temperatures, inside/outside noise, vibration, standing on concrete for long hours and wet or uneven surfaces.
Education & Experience:
•High school diploma or GED required. Two-year technical associate degree preferred.
•One to two years of experience as a quality inspector, preferably in the aerospace industry.
•Requires working knowledge of shop mathematics.
•Working knowledge of blueprints, complex drawings, and specifications.
•Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, such as Excel.
•Working knowledge of precision measuring instruments.
•Working knowledge of inspection methods and techniques, manufacturing methods and requirements.
•Professional communication and demeanor as this position is the face of Wyman Gordon with customer.
•Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills as this position will communicate directly to customer.
•Ability to travel as required.
•Must successfully complete the SAE training class to include written and practical exam within 90 days of hire.
•Additional responsibilities as defined and assigned by supervisor or manager.
Physical Requirements:
•Ability to lift thirty-five (35) pounds on a repetitive basis.
•Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat climb, kneel, twist and work at heights on an intermittent basis for twelve hours a day.
•Ability to stand and walk on concrete surfaces for extended periods of time.
•Must be able to work with and around forklifts and hazardous machinery.
•Requires hand manipulation including simple grasping, power grasping, pushing, and pulling of materials and fine manipulation.
•Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes/odors, and hot/cold temperatures, inside/outside noise, vibration, standing on concrete for long hours and wet or uneven surfaces.
•Ability to work any shift including first, second, third, twelve-hour days and twelve-hour nights. Ability to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as scheduled.
•Must be able to wear all the required Personal Protective Equipment.
•Must be able to meet or exceed the following visual acuity requirements:
o Near Vision:
Tumbling E in accordance with ISO 18490
20/25 (Snellen) at 16" (40.64cm) +/- 1" (2.54cm) in at least one eye, natural or corrected.
Jaeger No.1 at not less than 12" (30.48cm) in at least one eye, natural or corrected.
o Color Perception:
Individual shall be capable of adequately distinguishing and differentiating colors used in the process involved.
