A law firm seeks a highly skilled and experienced Labor & Employment Counsel to join their team in San Francisco, CA. This position provides an opportunity to manage a wide range of complex employment-related legal matters, including defending against discrimination, harassment, and wage and hour claims. The ideal candidate will have 8-12 years of experience in labor and employment law, with a proven ability to handle cases from start to finish and manage client relationships effectively. This role requires a strong understanding of both federal and state employment laws and regulations.
Duties
- Defend clients in employment-related litigation, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour claims
- Handle PAGA (Private Attorneys General Act) matters and class action lawsuits
- Manage cases independently from inception through resolution
- Draft and respond to pleadings, motions, and discovery documents
- Argue motions, including dispositive and discovery motions
- Take and defend depositions, including plaintiffs' depositions and corporate witness depositions
- Provide expert employment counseling on federal and state employment laws and regulations
- Maintain relationships with clients, offering strategic legal guidance and updates
- Support the broader legal team by collaborating on complex cases and legal matters
- Manage a portable book of business (ideal but not required)
- Stay current on employment law trends and regulatory changes to offer informed advice to clients
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active and in good standing with the California State Bar
- 8-12 years of relevant labor and employment litigation experience
- Expertise in defending against discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour claims
- Experience with class actions, PAGA matters, and complex employment-related litigation
- Ability to work independently and manage cases from start to finish
- Strong research, writing, and advocacy skills
- Experience in employment counseling and advising clients on federal and state regulations
- A portable book of business is preferred but not required
Education
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Certifications
- Active membership in the California State Bar
