Profile

A law firm seeks an experienced Employment Litigation Associate to join its Los Angeles office. This mid-senior level position requires a candidate with at least 3 years of experience handling employment law cases, particularly in California wage-hour class actions and PAGA claims. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and results-driven attorney with strong litigation skills, capable of managing multiple cases and working effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Duties

  1. Draft and respond to discovery requests, initial pleadings, and legal motions.
  2. Take and defend depositions, ensuring all parties are thoroughly prepared.
  3. Handle wage-hour class action lawsuits and PAGA cases from start to finish.
  4. Provide legal advice to clients regarding employment law matters, including compliance with California labor laws.
  5. Engage in pre-trial preparation and manage case files, deadlines, and communications.
  6. Participate in settlement negotiations and represent clients in hearings and trials as needed.
  7. Maintain a high level of organization and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  1. Minimum of 3 years of experience in employment litigation, specifically with wage-hour class actions and PAGA cases.
  2. Demonstrated ability to draft legal documents, respond to discovery requests, and argue motions.
  3. Comfort with taking and defending depositions, as well as managing discovery in complex cases.
  4. Proven track record of managing multiple cases and deadlines effectively.
  5. Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  6. Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on clear, concise legal analysis.
  7. Ability to maintain professionalism and client service in high-pressure situations.
  8. Must be admitted to practice law in California.

Education

  1. Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  1. Active membership in the State Bar of California.

Skills

  1. Litigation Experience: Extensive experience with employment litigation, including wage-hour class actions and PAGA claims.
  2. Legal Writing & Research: Strong skills in drafting legal pleadings, and motions, and conducting legal research.
  3. Deposition & Trial Skills: Comfort and experience with taking and defending depositions, preparing witnesses, and representing clients in court.
  4. Project Management: Ability to manage multiple, complex cases while maintaining attention to detail.
  5. Team Collaboration: Comfortable working as part of a team and coordinating efforts for case preparation and strategy development.
  6. Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to distill complex legal issues for clients and colleagues.
