Position Title: Trust & Estates Administration Associate Attorney Note: 3 yrs. of Trust & Estate Planning/Administration experience is REQUIRED. Summary: Well-established Pasadena-based law practice seeks an experienced Trust and Estates Administration Associate Attorney with a minimum of three (3) years of experience . The firm values prior experience in fields of estate planning, tax, or corporate practice. The role requires the associate attorney to have direct file responsibility on trust/estate administration matters , including the administration of decedent’s estates and advise on estate, gift, and property tax issues. The Trust Administration Associate Attorney will develop, and draft administration documents, regularly consult with clients, and advise them through legal processes. This position requires excellent drafting skills and legal research and writing skills, as well as commitment to professionalism, client service, and exceptional work product. General Duties & Responsibilities: Analyze various trusts, specifically A-B, A-D, A-B-C, dynasty trusts, GRATs, QPRTs, ILITs, and CRTs, as well as the transaction documents to implement the administration of trusts and the gift tax filings to adequately disclose them to the IRS. Develop and draft trust administration documents and work with clients and their advisors to obtain the necessary information to prepare asset allocation agreements and spreadsheets and estate tax filings. Meet with clients, advise them on legal matters, draft documents, and guide them through the administration process. Knowing all aspects of the client’s matter, attend client meetings and calls related to the matter, handle client communications, create planning strategies to meet the client’s aims, handling the drafting of documents related to the project, and reviewing draft pre-bills and invoices for the matter. Identify the appropriate strategy to meet the client’s expressed objectives and make recommendations to fulfill those objectives including advising on the type of trust(s) and entity structures. Regularly consult with clients, accountants, financial advisors, and other parties as needed to effectively move cases forward. Draft court pleadings and orders for probate, conservatorship, or other court related projects for clients (e.g., trust modifications or reformations). Draft and review business contracts, corporate maintenance documents, and other business filings. Contribute to firm administrative projects such as forms development, team meetings, etc. Cultivate relationships with the firm’s existing and future clients by maintaining consistent and timely communication. Support increased client needs at certain times of the year, such as during the tax filing seasons and at year end. Meet billable hour targets and assist with non-billable tasks and projects as needed (e.g., reviewing pre-bills or invoices, working on forms updates, or assisting in research projects). Qualifications: Licensed to practice law in the state of California as a member of the California Bar in good standing. Ability to interact comfortably and professionally with clients, advisors, and other attorneys. Excellent legal research and strong drafting/writing skills. Commitment to professionalism, client service, and exceptional work product. Strong decision-making and critical-thinking skills. Ability to self-start, meet deadlines, prioritize, manage multiple projects simultaneously, work well with change in a fast-paced environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, time management, attention to detail. Professional maturity and team player. Ability to function efficiently and productively as a team member with all the interpersonal skills required to build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and clients. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; HotDocs, Abacus and Timeslips preferred.
