Senior Technical Project Manager
How You’ll Contribute
The Senior Technical Project Manager (STPM) reports to the Director, Data Operations, and works closely with the Director, Data Ops and Senior Director, Data Products to manage the daily operations of the internal and external technical teams and partners for Technology projects. The STPM will also manage and implement the technology planning process. The STPM will meet regularly with external teams and the NGS Technology team members, scheduling and tracking the movement of project work across technical disciplines including concepting, design/layout, production, integration, implementation, and maintenance of technology solutions. The STPM will coordinate and manage internal client feedback communicating needs to vendors to ensure an effective and focused project. The STPM will source, identify, and manage vendor’s efforts to ensure competitive pricing, while maintaining quality and consistency. The STPM should be well versed in the most current technology trends including CRMs, Agile Methodology, data mesh, data governance, AI, etc.
Your Impact
Responsibilities Include:
Project Management (60%)
- Manage internal and external work schedules and monitor all deliverables and responses.
- Manage internal scheduling of meetings, assign tasks and responsibilities, and monitor the movement of project work across divisions to deliver finished work on deadline.
- Track and report on all ongoing open technical projects from start to finish.
- Identify high value cost and time saving options. Develop workflows and process solutions in support of improved collaboration and communication.
- Work with leadership to create RFPs, coordinate responses to RFIs, and identify, source, and manage vendors, contractors, and specialists in support of Technology to deliver top quality finished work on deadline and budget.
Communication and Coordination (30%)
- Serve as liaison with internal NGS departments, and external partners, consultants, and vendors on Technology project efforts.
- Establish productive and collaborative day-to-day relationships with internal teams, tech consultants, architects, admins, engineers, and other vendors. Monitor and ensure compliance with contracts and Nat Geo’s goals and objectives.
- Schedule, attend, and coordinate staff participation for all project and planning meetings.
- Compile notes, comments, and collect feedback ensuring communication is clear and timely.
Reporting and Review (10%)
- Prepare regular reporting, as needed, on project and workload progress.
- Organize and set agendas for regular technical team discussions and committees to inform on project progress and enable key decision-making conversations.
- Work with the Technology team to ensure retention of accurate records and archives of work by vendors and internal teams.
- Formally and informally review team output and deliverables, provide critiques of quality and effectiveness, recommend new practices for greater success and efficiency.
What You’ll Bring
Educational Background
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Project Management or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
Minimum Years and Type of Experience
A minimum of 8 years of experience managing projects in the information technology field, including 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience with technical projects managing the development and integration of data systems, CRMs, data platforms, and data analytics capabilities in an enterprise organization.
Necessary Knowledge and Skills
Highly organized, with experience in developing and maintaining large, complex technical projects and schedules. Superb communication and interpersonal skills. Capacity to work independently and in teams as required. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, pay close attention to detail. Requires experience and knowledge of Agile and scrum methodologies, data analysis. Experience with Salesforce CRM is a plus.
Supervision
Contract staff as needed.
Salary Information
The salary range for this position is $140,600 - $148,000.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
