The School of Social Work has an exciting opening for an Assistant Dean for Development (Chief Advancement Officer). This is a full-time, permanent position.

The Assistant Dean for Development leads the School of Social Work’s Advancement team in reaching its fundraising goals by developing and leading the strategy for securing gifts from individuals, organizations, corporations, and foundations. The Assistant Dean for Development works to increase public support and awareness of the School of Social Work, in collaboration with the Dean and the Assistant Vice President (AVP) for Development.

What You Will Do:

  1. Frontline Fundraising (35%)
    • Manage a portfolio of individual major gift prospects, including developing and implementing cultivation and solicitation strategies.
    • Oversee the management of the School’s portfolio of corporate and foundation prospects.
    • Enhance identification, engagement, solicitation and stewardship efforts for the School’s major donors.
  2. Leadership and Team Management (35%)
    • Supervise the School of Social Work’s Advancement team and oversee the team’s day-to-day fundraising operations.
    • Create budgets and forecasts and manage finances within the Advancement team.
    • Provide strategy and counsel to the School’s Board of Advisors.
  3. Strategy Development (15%)
    • Establish both long- and short-term fundraising strategies for the School’s overall advancement activities.
    • Develop strategies for building and expanding the base of potential donors.
  4. Campaign Planning (15%)
    • Coordinate campaign planning and preparation in collaboration with key partners.
    • Build on the success of past campaigns to support future multimillion-dollar campaigns.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

A bachelor's degree AND at least seven years of experience in institutional development/advancement, with an emphasis on cultivating and soliciting major gifts.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements.

  • Demonstrated major gift fundraising success at a comprehensive research university or health-care institution.
  • Ability to understand the School's key priorities and navigate competing interests.
  • Proven track record partnering with senior leadership.

What You Can Expect:

  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary.
  • Frequent local travel expected.
