JOB TITLE: System Engineer / Information System Security Engineer - R24-068
PROJECT OVERVIEW: The System Engineer / Information System Security Engineer will serve as part of an infrastructure operations and maintenance (O&M) team responsible for maintaining and securing an isolated infrastructure consisting of Linux servers and workstations, network attached storage, and networking hardware. The ideal candidate will posses a broad skillset and be capable of adapting and learning new technologies for continuous improvement and evaluation of system optimization opportunities.
The System Engineer / Information System Security Engineer will work as part of a diverse work team, interfacing directly with customers, end users, software developers, and other project stakeholders daily. Primary duties will include performing routine security scans of hardware and components that make up the system, analyzing security scans, and helping plan and execute required security patching and updates to ensure system compliance and accreditation. Other duties may include, but not be limited to serving as a data transfer officer; assisting with hardware/firmware updates; authoring and maintaining system and security documentation; and working as part of an integrated product team focused on business and mission continuity and operations.
JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitor, assess, and maintain information security policies and for the hardware and systems that make up the system and network infrastructure. Ensure compliance with Sponsor security policies and directives. Conduct and analyze system and network security scans and assessments. Translate security findings into actionable implementation steps for fellow maintenance team members. Work as part of an integrated product team comprised of multiple vendors. Monitor, scan, assess, and help remediate any security findings that may be discovered within the managed infrastructure. Evaluate system security standards and make recommendations for continuous improvement. Assist program team with configuration management and logistics related to the information system architecture. Help plan and execute phased hardware recapitalization to promote extended service, security, and support of the system and network. REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Active TS/SCI w/poly DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong working knowledge of information security policies and best practices published by industry resources like the Center for Internet Security (CIS) National Institute of Standards and Technologies (NIST), Department of Defense (DoD), Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), and Intelligence Community Directives (ICDs) Familiarity with system and network security scanning tools (i.e. Nexpose, Nmap, Nessus, etc.) Ability to translate security findings into actionable implementation steps for fellow maintenance team members. Demonstrated experience scanning and updating RedHat/Rocky Linux distributions on servers and workstations. Working knowledge of networking, basic routing, and network device security scanning and updating. Ability to perform data transfer operations between isolated systems and networks. Demonstrated mastery of information security principles and best practices to safeguard information systems. Understanding of scalable infrastructure and applications is a plus. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication skills for responding to service desk tickets and requests. Effective time management and organizational skills. Detail-oriented thinking with the ability to see the "big picture". Growth mindset and capability for interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork.
WORK LOCATION: Dulles, VA
TRAVEL: Up to 25% CONUS. Up to 1-3 business days per quarter could be required to help maintain and update equipment at geographically separated locations.
