Why does the job exist?

The overall purpose for this position is to manage and maintain the agency's IT infrastructure to ensure its reliability, security, and overall performance while also provide support to end-users and contributing to the strategic growth and success of the organization. HED requires two (2) IT Systems Administrators to work collectively and support each other across numerous areas, primarily cyber security.

How does it get done?

This position is responsible for maintaining and optimizing the IT environment, including installing, configuring, and updating systems, servers, and networks. Duties include troubleshooting failures, providing user support, and staying current with technologies and best practices. Key responsibilities are divided: one person focuses on MS 365, firewalls, and desktop support, while the other handles network switches, smartphone management, and cloud services.

This position serves HED leadership, employees, associated agencies, local organizations and students enrolled in New Mexico Higher Education Institutions.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have: - Technical skills & knowledge - Proven track record in troubleshooting and resolving system, network, and hardware issues - Hands-on experience with performance optimization and capacity planning - Strong analytical skills to diagnose and address IT failures and outages - Proactive Approach anticipating future IT needs and proposes strategic upgrades

Minimum Qualification

Associate's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in end user support, systems administration, network administration or any related field. Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some travel may be required. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
