Job Description
Candidates will be responsible for both material handler responsibilities and operator duties as they progress. The candidate will pelletize materials, load/unload trucks, use a forklift when needed, and downpack chemicals. This role involves chemical handling, hooking up barrels or end-use containers to piping systems for chemical downpacking for shipment. The candidate will regularly operate forklifts to transport materials; however, this is not solely a forklift role. This is a chemical operator in training position.
Responsibilities- Pelletize materials and load/unload trucks.
- Operate forklifts to transport materials.
- Downpack chemicals and handle chemical processing.
- Hook up barrels or end-use containers to piping systems for chemical downpacking.
- Assist in general labor tasks such as mixing, blending, filling, compounding, packing, unloading, and order picking.
- MT1 Certification (1 year in Manufacturing).
- Forklift experience on sit-down lifts.
- Chemical handling experience, ideally 1 year.
- 2-3 years of forklift and material handling experience.
- Experience in manufacturing and process roles.
- Experience in chemical processing or familiarity with manufacturing processes.
- Capacity to be promoted to a chemical operator role.
- Proficiency in fractions, mathematics, heavy computer usage, and conversions.
- 1-2 years of experience in manufacturing or process roles or a mechanical education that is relatable.
Enjoy working in a small plant environment with climate control in certain areas. There is significant upward mobility to higher-level chemical operator positions and supervisory roles. The company promotes from within, and you will have the opportunity to learn about the mechanics of the plant as a control room technician. The environment is very clean, with chemicals being pumped through valves, tanks, and pipes, minimizing the need to handle raw materials. Shift differentials are available once permanent, and the company has an excellent safety record.
Work EnvironmentThe work environment is a clean chemical processing plant. Employees will work in both the plant and control room. The piping systems make it warmer in the winter, though it can get warm in the summer. It is a safe environment with an almost perfect record for recordable injuries since opening 15 years ago. The work schedule follows a 3,2,2,3 pattern, providing 14 days off per month with rotating shifts.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Chesterfield, Virginia.
