Staff Accountant , a vital role within our Finance/Billing Department. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to our mission-driven organization by ensuring accurate financial recordkeeping, supporting audits, managing accounts, and enhancing internal processes. The role is full-time, exempt, and reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

Position Summary:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for general accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, monthly financial closings, and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of accounting records and financial reports in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). A key member of the Finance and Payroll teams, the Staff Accountant collaborates with team members to achieve financial goals. This role plays an essential part in assisting the Senior Accountant in the timely preparation of monthly financial statements and maintaining the integrity of the general ledger.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Recordkeeping and Reporting:

Prepare journal entries by compiling and analyzing relevant information. Reconcile cash postings with cash received in coordination with the Patient Accounts department. Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, including bank statements, petty cash, fixed assets, and depreciation schedules. Monitor accounts receivable, including donations, grants, and other income, and coordinate with program managers to ensure accurate expense coding. Ensure timely and accurate reporting of all financial activities and assist with monthly financial closing processes. 2. Audit and Compliance Support:

Assist in preparation for year-end audits and interim financial reviews. Provide necessary documentation and support to auditors during annual audits. Stay updated on tax regulations and non-profit compliance, and assist with preparing necessary tax filings (e.g., 990 forms). 3. Ad hoc Payroll Support:

Serve as the primary backup for payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal and state regulations. Assist with payroll-related reconciliations and maintain employee payroll records, including deductions and benefits. 4. Finance Department Management:

Prepare bank deposits, review the accounts payable aging report, and reconcile accounts payable with the general ledger. Support the CFO in preparing the annual budget and monthly internal financial reports. Maintain fiscal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure funds are used for their intended purpose. Handle special projects and ad-hoc duties as required. 5. Internal Controls and Process Improvement:

Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of internal control procedures. Identify areas for improvement in accounting processes and recommend solutions to enhance efficiency. Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Experience:

2-3 years of experience in accounting, preferably in a non-profit organization or similar environment. Technical Skills:

Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Financial Edge) and Microsoft Excel. Knowledge of fund accounting, GAAP, and tax compliance requirements for non-profits.
