This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Water Resources Engineer for our Blue Bell, PA office. The following locations will also be considered: Philadelphia, PA. The candidate will be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact
  • Perform professional water resources engineering work and analyses relating to dams and hydraulic structures and surface water management in accordance with applicable laws, rules and standards.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for dam breach studies, floodplain mapping and stormwater infrastructure design.
  • Prepare watershed studies, floodplain studies, and evaluate regulated impoundment structures for compliance with regulations.
  • Perform concept level analysis and design of hydrologic and hydraulic models and computations for storm water and watershed master planning.
  • Design a variety of facilities, such as bioretentions, green roofs, permeable pavements, stormwater ponds, manufactured treatment devices, and underground detention facilities.
  • Prepare watershed studies, floodplain studies, and evaluate regulated impoundment structures for compliance with regulations.
  • Interpret data and prepare visualizations such as tables, charts, and illustrations to present findings.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations.
  • Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, and record retention.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
  • Contribute and interact well with others as well as develop and manage high quality technical and professional deliverables on projects and proposals.
  • Assist with development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
  • Participate in proposal preparation and marketing activities.
  • Foster collaboration and participate in technical discussions with team members.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
  • Coordinate and manage tasks within larger projects.
  • Lead tasks for technical assignments on projects.
  • Assist in developing schedules and objectives for the project and for field staff.
  • Pursue diversified knowledge of water resources principles and practices.
  • Identify technical issues and take actions to mitigate risk.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience in water resources engineering.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Proficient knowledge of water resource engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to environmental permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Working knowledge of Stormwater Management, Drainage, Erosion and Sediment Control, Hydrology & Hydraulics Design, Watershed Studies, Floodplain Delineation, etc.
  • Proficient ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Consistently produces high quality technical and professional deliverables on projects and proposals.
  • Adept at coordinating technical matters with public and private groups.
  • Demonstrates high level skills of surface water analysis, hydrologic methodologies/models (TR-55, HEC-HMS, etc.), hydraulic models (HEC-RAS, HEC-RAS-2D, SITES, etc), watershed modeling (PCSWMM, etc) and with ESRI ArcGIS and AutoCAD software.
  • Team Player - Responsive, reliable and collaborative.
  • Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in engineering with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline.
  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
  • Pursues professional licenses/ certifications.
  • Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work.
  • Works toward developing solid client relationships.
  • Member of and actively participates in local professional practice organization(s) including attending meetings / lectures.
  • Participate on conference panels, poster sessions, papers or presentations.
  • Known and recognized locally.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
