This position is within the Bridge Section of District Two.
Why does the job exist?
This position will direct, oversee and plan work for the maintenance crews within the Bridge section. This position will oversee the bridge projects throughout all 16 maintenance patrols within District Two as well as the field supply budget and will keep the supervisors informed of highway operations activities. This position will assess training needs and provide up to date training to develop and maintain a high level of functionality within the Bridge Crew. This position will Identify and analyze bridge problems, looks at all pertinent information to evaluate alternatives to generate solutions and recommendations. Inspect bridges to evaluate effectiveness of the maintenance management system. Implement measures of various maintenance and repairs after inspections, Provide consultations to Area Maintenance Supervisors regarding repairs to bridges. Oversight of all maintenance activities and utilizing the most cost effective and efficient method available to maintain a high level of customer service to the traveling public.
How does it get done?
Ensure compliance with NMDOT Administrative Directives; District directives and procedures. Budget allocation and spending. Prioritizing, scheduling and assigning work. Inspect bridges to evaluate effectiveness of the maintenance management system. Implement measures of various maintenance and repairs after inspections. Ensure proper tools and equipment are available for work and dealing with equipment issues and replacement. Employee safety, injury prevention.

The traveling public & pedestrians.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess the following: - At least three (3) years' experience supervising and managing employees on a highway maintenance crew. - Perform clerical and administrative duties; prepare preventative maintenance reports, equipment usage reports; material estimates, fixed asset inventory control, store supply requests; complete bulk fuel inventories; process procurement documents; maintain operations records; maintain budget and track field supply materials; complete training request forms and On the Job Training (OJT) reports; process material estimates and reports; enter daily reports and bi-weekly schedules in the Maintenance Management System (MMS) and enter/approve time in SHARE. - Maintenance of roadways and roadway features; Provide an efficient quality transportation system for the safety of the traveling public by maintaining highways, right of ways, signs, roadways, structures, fences in accordance with the Maintenance Management System (MMS) and Department policies and procedures; develop plans for fog seal, crack seals, and other preventative maintenance plans; maintain and repair equipment, buildings and grounds. - Complete employee performance evaluations for employees pursuant applicable SPB rules and Department policy including opening, interim, and final evaluations in a timely manner and provide appropriate feedback; route evaluations to Human Resource Office at least two (2) weeks prior to anniversary date, separation, transfer, or promotion; develop action plans where necessary.
Minimum Qualification
A Bachelor's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of professional level experience operating within parameters and guidelines directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below. A hiring agency will designate that a portion of the required experience to include supervisory and/or specialized experience. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.

Employment Requirements
This position is designated a safety sensitive position within the meaning of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 and must abide by all provisions of the Federal Omnibus Transportation Testing Act. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment requires successful completion of a post-offer physical and pre-employment drug test; employment is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License, and must have a Class A Commercial Driver's License at time of hire. Business reference check and Driver's License verification are also required and employment is conditional pending results. Must successfully pass demonstrated abilities test with a 75% or better.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage.
