Evidence of, or potential for, an active research agenda in applied quantitative and/or mixed methods; evidence of previous application of these methods to relevant issues in education; and experience, or demonstrated interest, in teaching quantitative and/or mixed methods research. Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required) The department seeks candidates with experience in quantitative and/or mixed methods applied research, assessment/evaluation, action research, and other practitioner-focused research courses in online graduate programs. Expertise in teaching in multiple formats, including online; experience mentoring graduate students, particularly on research design and applied methodologies; and evidence of securing external research funding. A professional and pedagogical alignment with critical quantitative methodology is welcome. License/Certification Required N/A Description of the Department or Unit Appalachian State University's Department of Leadership and Educational Studies in the Reich College of Education seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Educational Research position, starting in Fall 2025. This position entails teaching EdD and master's courses in quantitative methods, mixed methods, and other applied, practitioner-focused research courses as needed. The successful applicant will be expected to maintain an on-going program of research and publication, advise and mentor graduate students, serve on doctoral student dissertation committees, work with a variety of student populations, and provide service to the university and profession. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Teach and develop courses in graduate level applied and practitioner-focused quantitative and/or mixed methods research; support and mentor doctoral students (EdD) in dissertation research and masters-level student projects, using methodologies such as action research and program evaluation, as well as assessment; engage in an active program of research, with the potential for securing internal and external funding; collaborate with faculty across the Reich College of Education on interdisciplinary research, teaching, and service initiatives; and provide service to the department, college, university, and community through committee work, graduate student advising, and curriculum development. Presence on campus for faculty and committee meetings, commencement ceremonies, and other activities is an essential function of the position. Posting Details Information Proposed Date of Hire 08/01/2025 Suggested Salary Range Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. ABD Consideration: ABD with reduction in rank and salary (see desc. below) ABD Description ABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year. No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position.
