Title: Administrative Assistant for Transitional Programs (part-time) Agency: New River Community College Location: Pulaski - 155 FLSA: Nonexempt Hiring Range: $15 per hour Full Time or Part Time: Part Time Additional Detail Job Description: New River Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under a state-wide system of 23 community colleges. The college is located on a one-hundred-plus acre site at the intersection of U.S. Routes 11 and 100 in Dublin, Virginia with an instructional site in Christiansburg. The campus provides modern, well-equipped facilities for the career technical education programs as well as for the college transfer programs. Approximately 4,000 students comprise the student body. Duties: Perform office support functions for the Office of Transitional Programs using initiative and good judgment to see that matters are handled in a professional, efficient, and timely manner. Enter class information in the VCCS Workforce Enterprise System (WES), run queries, and undertake problem-solving in related information processing. Interact with students, potential students, NRCC personnel, and the public via telephone, email, and in-person communication. Create and organize course packets and other materials. Support the Integrated Education and Training program and assist in processing a variety of credentials earned by students in non-credit programs. Assist with other tasks as assigned by the Director of Transitional Programs. Minimum Qualifications: Significant work experience in an office setting with demonstrated knowledge of effective office practices. Good organizational skills, oral and written communication skills, and computer skills. Ability to interact with other personnel professionally and provide excellent customer service to students, area employers, and the public. Ability to meet deadlines while working effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Capability and/or demonstrated potential in the use of computer systems. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of queries and databases. Preferred Qualifications: Work experience in an educational environment.
