Job Summary and Qualifications The Group Vice President of Anesthesia Operations (GVP Anesthesia Ops) for HCA Anesthesia Services is responsible for developing and implementing strategic growth and managing operations for the Anesthesia Service line for the Atlantic Group (multiple divisions). The GVP will oversee the Divisional and day-to-day management of employed providers as well as a resource for vendor practice management and contractual needs. The GVP Anesthesia Operations will execute on an aggressive growth agenda while ensuring execution of strategic and operational initiatives to maintain best practice operations management across the HCA Anesthesia Services operation.
This leadership position will have Division VP and AVP direct reports, holding them accountable for achieving goals including quality and clinical performance, achievement of financial goals, development and oversight of new programs including joint ventures, and building trust through communication and collaboration that develops a performance-oriented culture optimizing and enhancing the operating results across the company.
The Anesthesia Operations team will communicate regularly (MOR/QOR as necessary) with the Group and Division Presidents and CFOs and the Divisions hospitals and C suites. The GVP will be expected to imbed HCA Anesthesia Services into the surgical operations at its hospitals by ensuring the clinical and management teams maintain focus on quality and operations that will differentiate HCA hospitals from others by way of superior and aligned anesthesia care.
What you will do for this role:
Provides executive level strategic leadership to the management and clinical teams within HCA Anesthesia Services.
Primary interface of HCA Anesthesia Services (HCA-AS) to HCA Corporate, Group, and Division leadership.
Oversight of financial and operational management for employed anesthesia practices.
Collaborates with the Practice Resource Team for vendor oversight and contract management, including utilization, model and efficiency reviews that become the basis for contracting.
Manages the Division VPs/AVPs for the HCA-AS to support this individual in the development and execution of a “best in class” clinical strategy that ensures superior care and effective integration into surgical services at HCA hospitals.
Develops, maintains and adapts HCA-ASs’ operations into HCA matrixed operations environment, ensuring efficient interfaces into support functions like legal, PGL, PCA, HR, Finance, etc.
Creates and drives the growth plan for HCA-AS by identifying key attributes of anesthesia programs whose value would be enhanced through assimilation into HCA-AS. Maintains growth plans and executes on strategies in alignment with Corporate and Group, including a roster of high priority targets, both within and outside of HCA.
Partners with the National Clinical VP in the Development of HCA-AS Corporate branding, marketing and image campaigns that will be critical to success in recruiting and brand awareness of HCA-AS.
Along with the clinical leadership team, develops relationships with US physician and APP medical schools and training programs to differentiate HCA-AS and develop recruiting awareness.
Responsible for making certain that appropriate compliance controls are in place and that the provider and management teams are up to date on all regulatory matters.
Ensures HCA Anesthesia Services’ AVP Operations team interface effectively with Division, PHY and Facility leadership by cascading best practices.
Helps develop, market, and drive the strategic anesthesia direction of HBP in conjunction with, Division, and hospital CEOs.
The overall responsibility for the functions of the HBP services in the assigned Division to ensure maximum utilization of resources and the efficient delivery of anesthesia services.
Ensures that development a quality program in conjunction with HCA, ASA and other standards, to include facilitation of quarterly quality reviews and providing for problem resolutions.
As needed, supports anesthesia evaluations performed by the Physician Resource Team.
Participates in partner/vendor assessments and annual evaluations when requested. Ensures programs adhere to the HCA “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement.”
Ensures compliance with and knowledge of the company’s Code of Conduct by all subordinates to ensure an ethical work environment.
What qualifications you will need:
Master’s in Business or Healthcare administration preferred.
MD/DO or CRNA preferred.
Minimum of seven years’ experience in Anesthesiology (or other similar HBP line of business) operations and practice management.
Preferred experience with anesthesia business development, contracting and vendor negotiation.
Effective working knowledge of healthcare systems management for clinical operations.
