Summary: The Senior Director of Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting will lead all aspects of technical accounting and external reporting for Vaxcyte. This role will serve as a subject matter expert on complex accounting issues, including GAAP and SEC reporting requirements, to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and drive high-quality reporting practices. The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader with a strong technical accounting background and the ability to communicate complex topics clearly and effectively across departments and with executive leadership, who has experience in Big 4 public accounting as well as publicly traded, global organizations with a high volume of transactions and complexity. Essential Functions: Technical Accounting Leadership:
Provide expertise on technical accounting issues, including revenue recognition, stock compensation, leases, business combinations, and other complex transactions. SEC Reporting:
Oversee the preparation and filing of SEC reports, including 10-K, 10-Q, and other required filings, ensuring accurate, complete, and timely reporting. Policy Development:
Establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures that align with current standards and industry best practices; communicate updates and changes to key stakeholders. Cross-functional Collaboration:
Partner with finance, legal, investor relations, and operations teams to address accounting implications of various transactions and ensure alignment with business goals. Audit and Compliance:
Manage the external audit process and coordinate with auditors to support the completion of annual audits and quarterly reviews; implement effective internal controls and ensure compliance with SOX requirements. Financial Analysis and Research:
Conduct technical accounting research and provide guidance on emerging accounting issues, offering strategic solutions and alternatives. Team Development:
Lead, mentor, and develop the technical accounting and reporting team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Requirements: Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA license required. Master’s degree or equivalent advanced qualification preferred. Experience:
Minimum 12+ years of relevant experience in technical accounting and SEC reporting, with a combination of Big Four public accounting and public company experience. Technical Skills:
Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and SOX compliance. Strong skills in drafting and reviewing SEC reporting related documents. Experience with financial reporting software (e.g., Workiva, NetSuite), and proficiency in Excel. Leadership Skills:
Demonstrated experience leading and developing high-performance teams, with excellent project management and organizational skills. Communication Skills:
Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, with the capacity to effectively present complex information to stakeholders at all levels. Analytical Skills:
Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities; able to work independently and prioritize in a dynamic environment. Experience in fast-paced environment, highly driven with the ability to conduct multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Outstanding organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Attention to detail without losing sight of the big picture. Demonstrated ability to plan and organize projects, especially long-term. Able to manage multiple complex projects and deliver in a timely manner. Effectively communicates and presents information to senior management and other stakeholders (written, orally and via presentation materials), possesses an inquisitive mind, and works effectively with multiple functions; brings strong executive presence and the ability to influence decision making. The ideal candidate will be a results-driven team player and must thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. He/She must have the ability to drive results, possess a strong drive to meet and exceed goals and is willing to take ownership of problems and make or recommend sound decisions. The candidate will be an independent self-starter and a proactive leader who is continually focused on building a high performing team.
