Role Overview: This is an exciting opportunity to join New York Life’s (NYL) enterprise Talent & Leadership Development Center of Excellence. This team has a strong legacy of developing employees at all levels of the organization; equipping them with foundational and emerging skills required to role model our company values and deliver optimal business outcomes. The Learning & Development team is seeking a strong leader with deep expertise in leadership development, L&D and culture initiatives to join their team. The successful candidate will have proven experience leading successful leadership development functions in large and matrixed organizations. They will have expertise in designing and delivering engaging, innovative and impactful training programs for leaders at all levels, from first time managers to senior executives; ensuring that programming aligns with the company’s priorities, values, and leadership behaviors. As the CVP, Leadership and Manager Development, you will be at the forefront of shaping and driving our organization’s approach to leadership development. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing comprehensive programs and experiences that enhance leadership capabilities and managerial skills across all levels of the company. This role requires a strategic visionary with a deep understanding of leadership theory and practice, exceptional program management skills, and the ability to influence and collaborate with senior executives. This position reports to the VP, Learning & Development. What You’ll Do: Strategic Planning:
Develop and execute a strategic vision for enterprise-wide leadership and manager development that aligns with New York Life’s culture, leadership expectations and equips leaders at all levels to build high-performing teams capable of executing on the company’s strategic priorities. Continually identify and calibrate enterprise leadership development priorities through assessments, feedback, focus groups and strong partnership with HR, leaders and stakeholders across the organization. Partner across the organization on the creation and rollout of an evolving culture initiative; ensuring pillars of the company culture are reflected in how we engage and educate leaders across the organization.
Program Design & Delivery:
Create and oversee the design and delivery of robust and impactful leadership and manager training programs, ensuring alignment to key strategic priorities and leadership behaviors. Integrate best practices, external perspective and innovative approaches to ensure programs are impactful and relevant.
Leadership Development:
Establish a strategic approach to leadership development; building a pipeline of future leaders through a suite of programs that supports the growth of high-potential talent and emerging leaders. Partner across Talent Management to support mentorship and sponsorship initiatives to enhance and accelerate leadership development and succession planning. Design and implement foundational development experiences for managers, focusing on foundational skills such as team management, strategic thinking and performance management; preparing them for expanded leadership responsibilities as their career progress and business needs align. Develop just-in-time learning, tools and resources to support managers as they navigate daily team management activities and challenges.
Stakeholder Management:
Partner with senior executives and department heads across HR and the business to understand leadership opportunities, requirements and ensure development programming aligns with organizational priorities. Regularly share leadership development strategy, priorities and program roadmaps with stakeholders to drive visibility and engagement with key offerings. Act as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert to executives and senior leaders on matters related to leadership and manager development.
Program Evaluation & Improvement:
Measure and analyze the effectiveness of development programs, using metrics, feedback and external perspective to continually improve content and delivery. Leverage historical and real-time data when introducing new learning programs and approaches; continually measuring results to guide decision making and program adjustments.
Team Leadership and Development:
Lead and mentor a team of learning and development professionals, providing guidance, support and professional growth opportunities aligned to their strengths, capability gaps and areas of interest. Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment to achieve program goals and enable an empowered workforce.
Budget & Resource Management:
Develop and manage the budget for leadership and manager development programs, ensuring effective use of resources and cost efficiencies. Act as the business owner for external leadership development vendor resources; managing external training providers, as needed.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a large and matrixed enterprise with a dynamic and fast-paced environment. They are an expert in adult learning and a creative and strategic problem solver with a passion for excellence. What You’ll Bring: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, Organizational Development, or a related field; Master’s degree or MBA preferred. Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in leadership development, talent management or related fields, with at least 5 years serving in a senior leadership role. Proven track record in designing and implementing successful leadership development programs and experiences for executives and mid-level leaders. Experience building robust instructor-led including virtual and self-paced curricula for new and experienced managers. Deep understanding of leadership models and adult learning theory and practices. Strong project management, communication, presentation, and collaboration skills. Ability to think critically, solve problems, and adapt to changing requirements. Passion for innovation and a commitment to staying informed on the latest advancements in learning technologies and training methods. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of measuring and evaluating the success of learning initiatives and experiences. Demonstrated experience in managing budgets and resources effectively. Certifications in leadership coaching or training (e.g. ICF, ATD, or similar). Knowledge of learning management systems (LMS) or other developmental tools. Knowledge of AI or other learning design tools, preferred. Pay Transparency Salary Range: $137,500-$237,500 Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
