We are looking for a highly capable
Senior Underwriter, Environmental
to join our team and work remotely out of the New York City Metropolitan area. This role will support the Environmental Team through effective underwriting of new and renewal Environmental business, according to authority level and established guidelines, participate in special projects, and provide mentoring for less experienced staff.
The primary duties and responsibilities of the role are:
Underwrite Environmental Insurance coverage lines including General Liability, Contractors, Pollution Liability, Professional Liability, Premises Pollution Liability, and Excess Liability. Manage assigned underwriting territory, including management of brokers and travel to broker offices. Establish and communicate underwriting profit goals and other measurements including loss ratio, new business development, policy count, account retention, etc. Analyze individual risks and book of business results to manage and control underwriting exposure and pricing strategy consistent with company objectives. Cultivate and maintain relationships within and outside Argo Group to develop and drive new business opportunities. Represent the company at networking functions and other industry-related events that present and promote departmental initiatives. Act as a role model demonstrating belief in, and commitment to, the aspiration values of Argo Group. Other duties as assigned.
Core qualifications and requirements for this position include:
Bachelor's degree
in environmental science, engineering, geology, or related field of study required. At least
five years underwriting experience
required, preferably in environmental or casualty excess and surplus lines. Strong oral and written communication skills. The successful candidate will be outgoing and enjoy meeting people and building professional relationships. Detail-oriented with initiative and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. A proven track record of A+ performance and exceeding expectations. Ability to travel. Excellent analytical skills. Proficient in the use of computer programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
