https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qj5KuB34gU8 Position Summary: The Lactation Specialist is a clinically competent health care professional, delivers lactation assessment and instruction to obstetrical inpatients and outpatients. Effectively interacts with patients and other health team members, while maintaining standards of the International Board of Certified Lactation Consultants. Education/Experience: Completion of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred. Prior experience in maternal child health care and practice as breastfeeding consultant required. Must be able to pass all hospital competencies required for the position. Licensure/Certification: 1. Current licensure as a registered nurse by the State of Maryland. 2. Current CPR certification. 3. Certification by the International Board of Lactation Consultants, (IBLC). 4. Continuing education in breastfeeding to obtain and maintain certification status.
