Volunteer Coordinator

The Volunteer Coordinator will enhance volunteer engagement by implementing new strategies for recruiting, onboarding, supporting, and recognizing volunteers. This position collaborates with branch leadership to assess volunteer needs, develop innovative roles, and ensure a positive and impactful volunteer experience. This Volunteer Coordinator will be based out of the Powel Crosley location in the Springfield Township/Finneytown area.

Starting salary is $18/hour. Benefits for part-time employees may include an individual YMCA membership, program discounts, and optional retirement savings plan.

Responsibilities:
  • Assists the Executive Director to determine current needs for volunteers and assist in developing strategies for volunteer recruitment and placement.
  • Recruits volunteer pools across multiple dimensions of diversity for various volunteer opportunities. Utilize various recruitment channels including social media, community outreach, and local events.
  • Build strong relationships with volunteers to understand their skills, interests, and goals. Screen, interview, and onboard volunteers, ensuring compliance with the YMCA's screening matrix (background checks, waivers, etc.) as per YMCA policy.
  • Supports and supervises volunteer success through creative training and feedback, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge. Regularly engages volunteers for future opportunities and ensures they feel valued through recognition programs.
  • Maintains up-to-date volunteer records, including tracking volunteer hours and ensuring compliance with YMCA policies.
  • Identifies and builds long-term relationships with internal and/or external partners or key stakeholders to support programs, projects and/or events by recruiting and retaining volunteers.
Qualifications:
  • Must possess a High School Diploma, or equivalent plus two or more years of experience recruiting, training and managing volunteers.
  • Proven ability to relate effectively and build relationships to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills; training & presentation skills; interpersonal & analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks/people simultaneously; demonstrates proactive approach to problem-solving, resourceful and demonstrates the highest level of customer/client service and response.
  • Ability to use typical business software and office equipment plus ability to learn and utilize volunteer software.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
