Senior Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney
As a Senior Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney, you will carry the responsibility of managing the legal defense of workers’ compensation cases effectively from the initial case inception to the final resolution. This involves comprehensive case preparation, advocacy, and litigation, directly supporting various clients including insurance carriers, employers, and third-party administrators. This remote role demands a dynamic, detail-oriented professional, ready to operate in a fast-paced environment, ensuring rigorous defense strategies and client satisfaction under the clear guidelines of California law.
Salary:
$120,000.00 - $210,000.00 per year Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Advocate on behalf of insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and self-insured employers. Prepare and manage correspondence, ensuring timely and clear communication with all clients. Draft legal pleadings, motions, and discovery documents while also managing negotiations and settlements in workers’ compensation cases. Handle court appearances, manage a comprehensive legal calendar, and conduct depositions and cross-examinations of medical professionals and other expert witnesses. Effectively manage and negotiate lien claims; engage in proactive case management to anticipate future challenges. Mentor and direct the activities of legal assistants to ensure thorough case preparation and support. Build and maintain professional relationships with clients, colleagues, and external vendors. Organize and participate in marketing and networking events to both retain existing clients and bring in new clientele. Utilize legal case management software to review, update, and manage caseload effectively. Stay abreast of recent changes and developments in workers’ compensation laws and practices. Minimum Position Qualifications: At least 4 years of experience in workers’ compensation law on either the defense or plaintiff side. Must be a resident of California with an active CA Bar license. Expertise in litigation and managing the complete lifecycle of workers' compensation defense cases. Proven ability to handle a large caseload effectively and provide superior client service under tight deadlines. Strong skills in legal writing, research, and communication. Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote setting. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in lien negotiations and resolution. Background in mentoring or supervising junior staff or legal assistants. Prior experience with client relationship management and business development in a legal context. Familiarity with PracticeMaster and other relevant legal software. Strong public speaking skills with experience conducting training seminars. Skills: Exceptional advocacy and courtroom skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Strong analytical abilities and problem-solving skills. Effective negotiation skills. Proactive case management and strategic planning abilities.
