The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mining, Land & Water is recruiting for a Natural Resource Manager 2 in Anchorage. What You Will Be Doing: Are you ready to take on an exciting leadership role in shaping Alaska's future? We’re looking for a dynamic and visionary leader to direct and inspire a team of land management professionals responsible for overseeing the issuance of leases on state lands, including for commercial, public & charitable, agricultural & grazing, and maricultural purposes. As the Natural Resource Manager 2 for the Leasing Unit at the Southcentral Regional Land Office (SCRO), you’ll play a pivotal role in facilitating public land use, providing for economic development, and developing Alaska’s natural resources consistent with the public interest. If you’re passionate about public land management and thrive in collaborative environments, this is your chance to make a lasting impact! You’ll direct and mentor a dedicated team of up to 15 staff, with 2 direct reports, while leading crucial decisions that enhance the quality of life for present and future Alaskans.

Mission and Values/Culture: This position is housed in the Division of Mining, Land and Water (DMLW), within the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The DNR mission is to “[d]evelop, conserve and maximize the use of Alaska's natural resources consistent with the public interest.” The DMLW mission is “[t]o provide for the appropriate use and management of Alaska's state-owned land and water, aiming toward maximum use consistent with the public interest.” The Leasing Unit contributes to the DNR and DMLW missions by responsible management and utilization of the state's natural resources by maintaining a balance between economic development, environmental conservation, and ensuring the well-being of current and future generations.

The Working Environment You Can Expect: This position is located in downtown Anchorage. SCRO is a positive atmosphere geared towards collaboration and teamwork. The Anchorage office has a beautiful view of the Chugach Mountain Range, is near a wide range of services, the park strip, and the Coastal Trail system.

Normal business hours are 8:00 AM-5:00 PM Monday through Friday, and this position currently requires an 8-hour daily work schedule with options for an alternate work week and part-time remote work.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance. equivalent to those typically gained by: Education in a natural resource field, law, public administration, planning or economics and/or progressively responsible professional experience or managerial experience in natural resource management. Special Note: For purposes of the minimum qualifications, natural resource management is defined as the management of the land, water, mineral, forest, oil, gas, agricultural, archaeological, natural and cultural history, park, and related surface and subsurface resources. Experience or education in natural resource management means involvement in the above resources exclusively. Those with experience or education in managing these resources may specialize in different management functions (for example, planning, regulation, research or title). All of this experience is applicable to the natural resource management definition. Some positions may require education in a particular area of natural resource management or specific technical knowledge and training gained through specialized education or progressively greater responsibilities at the lower levels of the series.
