Successful applicants will have familiarity with the UCLA campus, with campus policing, and with campus security practices. Position is temporary and transitional in nature, as the CSO Programs transitions paper processes and records into electronic media.

Department Summary

The UCLA Police Department is dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment for teaching, research and public service. We accomplish this by developing community partnerships and problem-solving techniques to proactively address crime, the fear of crime and quality of life issues. The CSO Programs is a primarily student arm of campus safety and security providing safety escorts, patrol, and point security within and for the UCLA community. Position Summary

The Special Projects Manager is tasked with transitioning the Community Service Officer Programs at UCLA PD from paper processes to electronic processes. As a temporary position, extensive familiarity with the existing policies, procedures, geography, and mission of the UCLA CSO Programs is strongly preferred.

2 years Working in a University Law Enforcement Environment (Required) Working knowledge of the Community Service Officer (CSO) Programs, including organizational structure, policies and procedures for all work areas, operational policies, and mission, sufficient to analyze, correct, and modify all written materials used by the Programs. (Preferred) Working knowledge of UCLA, including: physical structure, organizational structure, University Calendar, patterns of behavior among students, staff and faculty, and the general prevalence of various types of criminal behavior on campus. (Preferred) Interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills. (Required) Ability to use a variety of computer application programs and hardware devices to produce reports, write a variety of documents, compile statistics and information, analyze information, etc. including but not limited to: word processors, spreadsheets, presentation software, communications software, and tablets and other mobile computing hardware. (Required) Solid knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs. (Required) Strong skills in short-term planning, analysis, problem-solving, and customer service. (Required) Demonstrated skill in training methods and techniques specific to the safety and security industry sufficient to analyze current training programs and develop new programs, continuing education classes, and seminars. (Required) Skill in exchanging ideas, information, and opinions with others to formulate/analyze programs and develop innovative solutions to problems. (Required) Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality. (Required) Working knowledge of the UCLA Police Department, including: organizational structure and hierarchy, departmental policies, directives, and general orders, operational policies, police radio protocols, practices, and terminology, and mission. (Preferred) Detailed knowledge of the geography of the area bounded on the north by Sunset Boulevard, on the south by Wilshire Boulevard, on the west by Veteran Avenue, and on the east by Hilgard and Malcolm Avenues in order to: navigate, provide information, train, evaluate subordinate knowledge, and formulate policy and procedure related to patrol or security. (Preferred) Working knowledge of University hiring policies and procedures sufficient to develop and follow fair and acceptable hiring practices. (Preferred)
