. Position and Salary The Attorney General’s Office is recruiting for a permanent full-time Supervising Paralegal 2 position in the Labor & Industries Division. This position is located in Olympia, Washington, and is represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE). Paralegal 2 (Range 55) salary range: $59,844 - $80,460 The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the preferred candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The following stipends may apply based on position requirements: Incumbents assigned to our Seattle office location receive an additional 5% King County Location Pay stipend. Incumbents assigned to a position designated as requiring dual language skills will receive a 5% Dual Language Requirement Pay stipend. About the Labor & Industries Division: The Labor & Industries (LNI) Division’s primary responsibility is representing and advising the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries in the following areas: Industrial insurance program Workers’ compensation benefits Fair wages & prevailing wage requirements Workplace conditions Safe work environments Contractor & building issues Crime victim claims And other matters involving workers & employers Recent LNI related legislation or cases resulted in worker protections for Washingtonians, including increasing the state minimum wage, expanding benefits for transportation drivers, protecting workers from health risks of exposure to wildfire smoke and extreme heat, recovering back wages for farmworkers, and enforcing citations for numerous workplace safety violations. LNI attorneys defend orders before a multitude of courts, including: Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals Office of Administrative Hearings Superior courts State appellate courts Federal courts LNI’s work touches all businesses and workers in Washington and is of central importance to the business economy of our state. Duties and Essential Functions of a Supervising Paralegal 2: Duties Include: Supervisory : Supervise, train, and coach Paralegal 1s in the performance of all duties. Assist in the prioritization of work and monitor work performance. Coordinate with the Administrative Operations Manager and other division managers to plan, lead, organize and control the work performed by the Paralegal 1s. Assist in the hiring, evaluation, and corrective action of designated staff, requiring a thorough understanding of agency policies and procedures. Approve timekeeping, leave, and training for employees under direct supervision. Assure appropriate and optimum use of the organization's resources and enhance the effectiveness of employees through timely appraisal and professional development opportunities. Legal Support : This position supports two or more Assistant Attorneys General in preparing for trials and court proceedings. In order to successfully accomplish the legal responsibilities of this assignment, the incumbent is required to do the following: Type, proofread, serve and file motions, pleadings, discovery (both propounded and responsive) and accompanying correspondence in compliance with court rules. Organize and prepare documents for use during trial and administrative hearing such as jury instructions, exhibits and trial notebooks. Ensure the proper and timely filing and serving of legal pleadings in the appropriate courts and on the various parties. Perform proofreading of documents making corrections for spelling, grammar, punctuation and format per agency style guidelines. Independently verify accuracy of citations and quotations in briefs. Independently compose correspondence for attorney signature. Calculate and enter essential case data into the case management system per agency and divisional business rules and in accordance with office Critical Events Policy and established office procedures; update information such as document and litigation and critical dates into CMS; use Outlook calendar program to track and tickle litigation and critical dates. Schedule and coordinate pre-hearing conferences or depositions for lawsuits including, attorneys, experts, clients and court reporters; arrange location and prepare relevant documents including notices, subpoenas, and vouchers for witness fees and court reporters. Management Team : Attend regular and special management meetings and participate in division business planning. Model and provide leadership to promote teamwork, motivate staff, and produce high-quality work. Analyze issues and trends, research problems, and collect and provide data. Prepare and provide reports as directed. Combination of four years of experience through paralegal certification, two-year paralegal degree, and/or paraprofessional experience in support of an attorney. OR Three years’ experience as a Paralegal 1 in Washington State Service. You may have gained applicable paraprofessional experience through previous Paralegal or Legal Assistant work.
