The HR enterprise consists of the Partnership for Strategy and Innovation (Partnership), People Services, Health HR, Campus HR, and the Office of the Chief HR Officer/Vice-Chancellor. Your Role on the Team

The Vice President - UCI Health/Associate Vice Chancellor, Human Resources - UC Irvine (VP/AscVC) is a pivotal senior leadership role at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) with responsibility for leading teams to provide exceptional human resources (HR) services and solutions to the university community. Reporting to the Senior Vice President - UCI Health/Vice Chancellor, Human Resources - UC Irvine (SVP/VC), the VP/AscVC leads the delivery of strategic HR services across the UCI enterprise, including Main Campus, Health Sciences, and Health. Primarily responsible for directing and overseeing comprehensive HR client services and workforce strategy functions of the Partnership for Strategy & Innovation (talent management/learning & development, talent strategy, workforce planning, employee engagement, and performance excellence). With the SVP/VC and other senior leadership, the AscVC directs, develops, and implements long-term strategic plans for the HR department to support the university's goals and objectives. Serves in SVP/VC's absence or when assigned. Advises executive management on all matters related to HR, providing insight and recommendations on HR strategy and best practices. Foster an inclusive and innovative culture within the HR department and across the enterprise.

Provides visionary leadership in the planning and delivery of client services, ensuring best practices are followed. Oversee business-unit dedicated teams of client services leaders, HR business partners, and HR generalists. Develops and executes a comprehensive strategy for client services that supports the overarching university's goals, local business unit goals, and enhances stakeholder satisfaction. Collaborates with executive leadership to align client services with institutional priorities and objectives. Establishes mechanisms to evaluate and continuously improve service delivery, including client feedback systems. Facilitate a client-oriented culture that emphasizes a proactive, responsive, and solution-oriented approach.

Provides leadership and direction to the workforce strategy functions of the Partnership for Strategy & Innovation (Partnership). With Partnership senior directors, develops and implements workforce strategies that advances the university forward and aligns with the university's mission, values, and strategic objectives. Develops enterprisewide strategies as well as custom solutions to unique business unit needs. Oversees implementation of strategic initiatives and new programs.

Develop and manage the budget for areas of responsibility, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources. Monitor financial performance and implement cost-saving measures where appropriate.

Develops organizational policies and authorizes their implementation. Provides advice, guidance and assistance to senior leadership; establishes the direction, policies and procedures of the Human Resources unit; represents Human Resources in organization-wide and / or system-wide meetings and discussions; plans, designs and implements the programs of the Human Resources unit; manages through multiple senior managers. Recognized as an influential leader. Erroneous decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of functional, division, or organization operations.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required: 8 years relevant experience delivering innovative HR solutions in a senior management capacity. Expert and broad knowledge of organization and system-wide personnel policies and applicable laws and regulations. In-depth knowledge of specific functions in a university's HR management information systems. Expert communication skills with a diversity of communication styles; demonstrates a high level of political acumen; communicates effectively orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to make decisions regarding hiring, evaluating, and development of subordinates. Excellent management skills that include collaboration, coaching and developing subordinates; ability to build relationships. In-depth understanding of the unit goals and ability to determine the best way of achieving unit goals. Demonstrated ability to handle extremely difficult or volatile situations / individuals effectively. Strong performance orientation as demonstrated by a track record of successfully delivering on client expectations, and implementing continuous improvement strategies. Ability to identify complex problems and related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Strong collaboration and teamwork skills. Demonstrated ability to build and lead in a collaborative environment, build consensus and promote the exchange of information among team members. Ability to foster a sense of community among a diverse employee population through use of inclusive management practices. Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Preferred: Experience working in higher education environment. Experience working in academic hospital environment. SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP Certification or PHR or SPHR Certification. The expected pay range for this recruitment is $184,800- $379,400 (Annual).

Special Conditions: Supports offices in Orange, Irvine, Fountain Valley, Lakewood, Los Alamitos, Placentia, and other locations in Orange County; must be able to reliably report to these different worksites at different times, with little notice. Must be able to work different schedules, as required by events. Some travel may be required. Hybrid role may be considered.
