The Chief Operating Officer (COO) for RWJ University Hospital, reporting to the hospital President, will execute and drive the hospital’s strategic and operational plan, ensuring alignment with enterprise objectives, while also addressing local community population and patient needs. The COO is accountable for the efficient and fiscally responsible operation of RWJUH and will work with other hospital and system senior leaders to ensure a high level of productivity, consumer access, patient retention, quality, and service. RWJBarnabas Health is undergoing unprecedented growth and an evolution into a fully integrated system. The COO must be a fast learner, thrive in dynamic organizations, and bring innovation and the highest expectations. In addition, the COO will be a results-oriented individual who can achieve success in a highly matrixed environment. The COO will be comfortable collaborating with physicians and executives and will possess outstanding communication and influencing skills. Responsibilities:
Achieve the highest level of performance in RWJUH operating units. Establish, monitor, and manage a plan to ensure productivity, operational and financial performance, and patient throughput. Develop strategic initiatives necessary to integrate and expand services and population health initiatives. Enhance the quality, access, safety, and efficiency of patient services and increase patient satisfaction. Leverage the EPIC EHR platform to hardwire best practices and measure results and improvements. Facilitate collaboration with system senior leadership, department chairs, colleagues, and clinicians. Foster robust relationships with physician members of RWJUH. Serve as a crucial executive champion for system value-based strategic initiatives. Design organizational services collaboratively with community leaders. Optimize operations, finances, and customer service levels of RWJUH. Ensure close management of revenue cycle and monitor performance of internal billing processes. Demonstrate market agility in analyzing opportunities for capital expansion. In partnership with human resources, recruit, develop, and retain the best talent. In partnership with marketing, further brand RWJUH in the surrounding community. Qualifications:
Master’s degree required, preferably in health services, business administration, or medical field. Seven to ten years of significant career progression within healthcare operations/management. Demonstrated experience delivering excellent service and operational outcomes in an acute-care hospital setting. Strong business insight and sophisticated knowledge of healthcare funding. Highly developed communication, influencing, and negotiation skills. Skill using and analyzing information systems for optimization and efficiency. A record of recruiting, training, and mentoring employees. A reputation for sustained, inclusive, trust-based physician relations.
