Primary Duties and Responsibilities We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Engineering/Physics faculty member to join our department. The successful candidate will teach the engineering curriculum and the calculus-based physics sequence for engineers (Physics 20 - Physics 23), encompassing both lectures and laboratories. Key responsibilities include: Teaching, Curriculum, and Program Development:
Deliver engaging lectures and laboratory sessions for engineering and physics courses. Develop and implement innovative teaching strategies. Student Support and Equity:
Employ effective equity practices to support a diverse student population. Advise student clubs and mentor students pursuing STEM disciplines. Assessment and Professional Development:
Assess student learning outcomes and analyze data to inform instructional strategies. Departmental and Institutional Service:
Actively participate in departmental meetings and contribute to policy development. Engineering Fabrication Shop Management:
Assist in selecting and maintaining shop tools and equipment. Strong Communication:
Strong communication skills and a proven ability to collaborate with students and colleagues are essential for this role. Minimum Qualifications Applicant must meet the minimum qualifications of an Engineering AND Physics faculty discipline at the college. To review the minimum qualifications for faculty disciplines, refer to Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges. Engineering:
Master's degree from an accredited institution in any field of engineering. OR Bachelor's in engineering AND Master's in mathematics, physics, computer science, chemistry, or geology.
Physics:
Master's degree from an accredited institution in physics, astronomy, or astrophysics. OR Bachelor's in physics or astronomy AND Master's in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics.
Must have evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the socio-economic, academic, cultural and ethnic diversity within the community college student population. Preferred Qualifications Teaching Experience:
Experience teaching college-level engineering and physics. Commitment to Equity and Inclusion:
Demonstrated experience implementing equity practices. Professional Engagement:
Participation in professional development programs. Subject Matter Expertise:
Knowledge of current advances in STEM education research. Communication and Collaboration:
